Notice how they refer to AA as AmigaOS... This is not the first press release were they do that, so i guess it kinda makes sense that they want to bury the classic AmigaOS "OS4"...

I'm not sure how you could get that message from my post seeing as I share most of the same views of the vast majority of people posting in these forums, which is in a nutshell that Amiga Inc. isn't doing much that is either innovative or exciting these days, putting road blocks in front of many possible initiaves that might actually get them more media attention, all the while exploiting what positive legacy the Amiga brand name might have left behind and alienating what developper and user base it might actually have left to make this possible.

Simply put, I questionned your statement that they are successful, whether economically or in innovation-wise, and whether this annoucement was a measure of any such success.

All anyone has to do is browse Amiga Inc.'s web site to see what sad state of affairs this company must be in to have such a poor corporate image. The classic and the new environments could have had a cynergetic effect for Amiga Inc., but by alienating the classic developper and user base, they have lost this opportunity and not managed to convince many to develop for their new platform, if one could call it that.

And none of it benefitting OS4? If Amigainc mention their 'PPC strategy' they are refering to pocketPC, not powerpc.

Meanwhile, whatever is left of the former amiga community is split into factions, started by the red group, instead of unifying towards a common API and hammering out a deal with Amigainc.

A lot of these deals could benefit the development of OS4. like the U3 deal,etc. Also, no one wants to pay the license to Amigainc to have the Amiga-Anywhere ported to OS4, so that 'anywhere content runs on OS4.

I don't see this as good news but rather as sad news.

There we have a company that controls IP to our beloved Amiga and is making business deals (well, some kind of business deals) with technology that has nothing to do with Amiga, except for the name, and yet they do not have the decency to answer to business proposals from parties involved in market that still is Amiga.

dan.hutch: pardon? , there is allready Cannon Fodder , Sensible soccer , wizball , Lemmings , rambo 3 and several other Amiga games (not all is classics though) available on mobilephones and on PDA's (if theyre supporting the API ofcourse).

Too bad there's no forum on this website where we could talk about what is really Amiga i.e. AmigaOS of course.

This is our job, to all of us to make the world know about OS4. When we'll have new hardware again, we have to move all united and spread the word. I hope all Amigans will act and speak and show OS4 everywhere around them.
Now waiting for the hardware.

I'll probably sound like a dunce for saying this...

Isn't Amiga Anywhere just a layer to run Amiga Anywhere software? How can they possibly say that it is an OS when in reality it shares more in common with Java???

Perhaps I'm wrong, if so I apologise.

It seems to me that Amiga is merely selling what they currently have. A company have bought Amiga and are usurping the brand for their own ends. With all due respect to Commodore aren't they doing the same? Well at least they haven't promised us an up to date C64 for now...

I always hoped that AA would be a layer to run old amiga programmes, much like the unsuspecting public of Brazil will probably expect, but running on embedded hardware. Whilst on a phone some games would look crap, on my PDA I think they'd be pretty cool - though Lemmings and even Worms would be virtually unplayable - each sprite is only a few pixels tall, my screen is a few inches by a few inches with a resolution of 640 x 480 - they would be tiny.

Amiga Inc left the AOS to the capable hands of Hyperion and the hardware to god knows who, I half suspect that when the product is fully complete they will be sure to jump up and down claiming it is their ball and they are going home. Failing that, maybe Garry Hare forgot to mention the other work that Amiga Inc were working on when he jumped ship...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again I just wonder who is it that is keeping Amiga Inc alive and why are they negating us??? I wouldn't be surprised if a certain company we all love to hate had some impact on this...

There isn't on this site but there is on another... it's Amiga.com.

People who become aware of this deal are more likely to jump on the Amiga.com website before Amigaworld.net or Amiga.org. I think we should keep a permanent presence on that site at least directing potential interested customers to look at other sites.

I agree, hope they go down and under, Hyperion should buy the full right to “Amiga OS” brand so it can be misused to sell Amiga Anywhere, Amiga name should NOT be attached to the PocketPC,
