Software News   Software News : three new tools ported to OS4
   posted by zErec on 19-May-2006 19:27:11 (3894 reads)
MMKeyboard is a multimedia keyboard driver for any Amiga compatible computer systems.

--> MMKeyboard.lha

You all know PDAs where you use a pen to draw invisible lines on the display.
The PDA is converting these combinations into characters or functions.

Meridian is doing exactly this! Meridian is a small commodity to create virtual hotkeys by using the mouse.
You draw a symbol and Meridian is starting the requested action. Since the starting point and the direction is
also important, there are countless combinations you can use.

--> Meridian.lha

-Did you ever feel boring when dealing with dos commands and their arguments?
-Did you ever wait for a GUI because the CLI only tool is to complicated for your Shell/CLI
skills?
-Did you ever understand all these cryptic argument names?
-Did you ever wished dos arguments would be in your nativ language for better
understanding?

Yes? Then then here comes the solution for your problems. "R" -
The only weapon to defeat templates! (Something like Airwolf! :) )

--> R.lha

Thanks to Guido Mersmann (geit)

You like those Windows keyboards with many additional tool buttons for EMail,
WWW, music and so on? You want to use a wireless keyboard? You don´t want to buy
expensive hardware that only supports the standard keys and leaving the others unused?

MMKeyboard allows you to use a Windows keyboard as Amiga keyboard.
In addition to that it's possible to launch programs via the multimedia buttons.

No driver problems like on the PC! One little commodity enables all available
non standard keys on any keyboard! Even future keyboards are working!

Start your music player by pressing the play button on your keyboard.
Eject your CDROM by pressing the eject button,
or open a Shell in the same way!
Now it's possible to execute any tool without qualifier,
because the keys are unknown to the system!
Of course it's still possible to use qualifiers to be more flexible!

MMKeyboard´s FEATURES:

* Commodity.
* MUI GUI
* Easy configuration.
* Many internal macros.
* Online and bubble help.
* Locale Support.
* 68K and PPC Binaries

MMKeyboard will let you configure your multimedia keys (nearly all keys really) to do just about anything via a GUI, Keys can be global or task specific, eg.

It doesn't matter if a program uses amiga-s or amiga-w to save, they can be mapped to the same function or MM key, for example F8, so in golded F8 sends RCOMMAND-s while in CED it sends RCOMMAND-w, you could add SHIFT-F8 to act as saveas etc.

A key can run programs from cli or wb, enter key commands, execute internal macros (screen / window control, insert text, mouse moves, clicks etc) or execute arexx scripts.

Meridian seems to work well on OS4. I had to modify the install script a bit though (just commented out every line that has "trace" or "retrace" in it).

Meridian would be nice if I had a tablet. Do we have drivers for any tablets? How about Wacom's USB ones.

It also works nicely just with a mouse for gesture short-cuts.

@ikir

All three programs have Native OS4 executables in the archives. I have been beta testing the native Meridian and MMKeyboard for a while now, and after many, many, lockups, crashes, freezes and grim reapers caused by compiler errors they both seem to be working fine and are stable with the latest beta os4.

If it fails under update4 I'll post the name of the one testing with that so you can all slap him

Yes.

MMKeyboard has a nice comprehensive GUI, but it does not support extra mouse buttons like AllKeys does.

@zErec

Does MMKeyboard use the new input.device API for handling MM keys? Or it's own way?

The installer asks for INSTALLER v44 or higher. My A1 with update 4 has V43.18 ????

I've uploaded a fixed install script for MMKeyboard OS4 Here, just replace your old MMKeyboard.install file

The problem is the original is designed to use the os2 or os3.9 installers, the os4 one just confuses it...

@Severin

The OS4 installer is outdated. Even if they don't want to support the latest features, the OS4 team should have set up some dummy commands which to nothing to avoid runtime errors. Then using a V45 version number and it's fine!

The script is working correct. It's the OS4 installer which needs corrections and not the script.

@geit

As I said on IRC when we discussed it, I agree with you, but it doesn't help those with OS4 just because you insist on using a function that's not available to them. Your using the latest OS3.9 instsaller argument is no good, that installer is 68k, any version checks it does on native files will return 0 which can lead to system files being overwriten with an ancient 68k version.

Well, simply copying the V44 installer into the mmkeyboard archive drawer before installation should do the job, then. MMKeyboard does not overwrite/replace any system parts, so there is no problem. Same for my other programms. Due copyright reason I cannot include the installer by default.
