Software News   Software News : VICE 1.19 for all flavours of AmigaOS
posted by AmiDog on 21-May-2006 17:41:11 (6799 reads)
I've made a few bugfixes and Marco van den Heuvel have implemented a lot of setting dialogs and made versions for AmigaOS3, AmigaOS4, MorphOS and AROS (i686).

Grab a copy for your AmigaOS flavour of choice at http://www.amidog.com/.

Any chance for a WOS-built?

@Stephen_Robinson

Don't worry about lack of speed, VICE is a very accurate emu and requires a lot of power. The 68k build is more interesting for Amithlon users (and maybe WinUAE ones with very powerful cpus)

Fair enough, I'll try it on my A1 later. But why would you run am emulator on an emulator?

Because you can I suppose!

Hi,

yes ... on 68k it is not perfect .. but with 060/66 it reaches
ca. 60% speed .. good for my ALL Time favorite stretegic game
"Panzer Strike!".. and in fullscreen with PAL emu und Scale2X ..
it shows AMAZING close to the orginal game on TV

Hope for supporting "Snapshots" and Network play soon ..

R-TEAM

No. VICE uses MUI and AFAIK you can't use MUI in a WOS program.

You might be able to make the 68k version a little faster by keeping the resolution down (no Double size, Scale2x or PAL Emulation) and using the "Fast SID" SID engine.

Another big speed up is to switch off true drive emulation (if the programs/games will run without that on), cause true drive emulation emulates the cpu of the drive(s) as well.

Just downloaded it on my A1, and it's going at 1399% in warp mode!

great!

But I will mention the the GZ.Tar format appears not to be compresed at all, meaning a rather large down load, may I suggest good old .lha format next time?

(Racks memory, but I always thought the GZ, Gun Zip??? was the compresion the .tar was everything stuck together for the tape archive, not that it really matters)

When I tar and gzip my current OS4 version of vice it winds up as a 5.8 MB file.

When I lha the same thing with the best compression of lha, it winds up as a 6.1 MB file.

Are you sure you want it as .lha

Well when I'm getting a Ratio of 0% compression on all files, and the folder is the same size as the single file archive, then the answer is, yes!

The one I downloaded (on dial up!) is 14151680 bytes. did you set the compresser to compress?

when I download the archives from the site I get the following sizes :

os3 : 2.8 MB
os4 : 5.2 MB
mos : 3.9 MB
aros : 3.7 MB
source : 4.7 MB

What most likely is going on is that your browser automatically depacks gzip files and then you wind up with a plain tar file.

Possible, I use Aweb 3.5.08 beta.

I noticed that when I'm downloading it dosn't know how big the file is, and so dosn't give me that little progress bar thingy.

Which combined with the lack of size information at the download site, does make such things rather confusing.
