Announcement   Announcement : AmiRevival 2006 CANCELLED
   posted by Ryu on 3-Jul-2006 18:51:54 (7109 reads)
After much deliberation it saddens me to announce AmiRevival 2006 has been cancelled.

I and a few other team members have tried hard to secure exhibitors over recent weeks with not much success. We had been given assurances by a few organisations that they would attend, or at least their products would be there but due to a lack of communications with them I have made the decision the show would not be viable.

Anyone who has purchased tickets will be getting a full refund in the next few days and if anyone has made any bookings that will leave them out of pocket please do contact me. I will do my best to try and compensate.

Many thanks to those who did pre-book tickets, both visitors and exhibitors, and thanks to those who contacted me over the past couple of weeks.

Further more I (Ryu) will be taking a step back from the scene for the foreseeable future, I will keep IntuitionBase.com online and will update it from time to time but I won’t be sinking much effort into it. The Scunthorpe Amiga Group will remain but no meetings are planned, and I won’t make any more plans until things pick up again.

Thanks to all those who have supported me over the years, I hope to keep in touch with you all!

Adios and thanks for all the fish

The really sad part is that this will just get more and more common due to the shrinking community.

I wish you the best and am happy that you tried.

@Ryu

My sympathies for all you have been through the last few weeks while also trying
to deal with the issues surrounding the show itself.

@Ryu/Giga etal.

I sincerely thank you for what I know was a -sincere- effort on your part to make
this show become a reality.

@ Ryu

Sorry to hear that. I guess this is yet another symptom of the general suffocation that the community is experiencing due to the current situation.

Hope things can get better ...

Thanks for your support, Ryu.

There is no Amiga to revive, because it is braindead (a great movie, by the way ) Geez, even an optimist like myself has now lost all faith in Amiga. Long live Minimig!

Hey come on people lets be positive here shall we. With Adam ordering connectors and Hyperion saying unnamed people are working on hardware projects things are better than many people think.

Oh and dont forget my super duper whizz bang motherboard with Actual Reality Sensory Environment , A.R.S.E for short, technology built in

I'm really sorry to hear this, had just looked at flights to the UK. The show was in the most busy month here, so there was no way to make a quick decision this time.

Here's hoping that there will be another try, another time.

we should try to concentrate all our shows in a single one. Like the old World of Commodore (maybe one at year). We have no forces to split these shows that are always poor of visits..

Hope you can back at home Ryu

@Ryu

Thanks for all your work over the years. It's a shame it has come to this. Hopefully things will pick up soon.

I totally agree with you there. Though it should be one for US, one for EU and so such since most people dont have the means to travel for such distances.

Really sorry to hear that, we (SEAL) were looking forward to the show.

Thanks for all the effort you and the team put into it.

@Ryu - All your hard work has been greatly appreciated. Please come back soon.

@All - Our user group discussed the possibility of doing some kind of show last year and the only way we felt it was even feasible to consider was to host some sort of large picnic or party instead of a traditional show. Checking into some of the costs involved in putting on a show really opened our eyes and made everyone appreciate those who organize the large events. I would ask that everyone remember that putting on a show isn't as easy as it looks and that if you're lucky enough to have a show that you can attend without it being a financial hardship, please do so and consider yourself to be fortunate to have the chance.

While the community is suffocating and shows are being cancelled... Nice. Just keep in mind that there's gonna be no-one left to sell the hardware to in the end.

Adam ordering connectors means that he's working on something and he wants to release something. It does not automatically mean that the product will hit the market for certain, there are far more factors that can affect that than just development.

This is a shame!

The situation isn't hopeless since the Codex Alpe Adria Show was a success.

Maybe the time to have computer shows is in the late Autum/Winter/Early Spring - and I think the U.K can only stand a Northern and Southern show these days.

Perhaps it's me but a few years ago the shows used to get pushed heavily on Ann/A.org and Czech News - this show wasn't pushed at all it seems........

bty Your SCAG page on intuitionbase doesn't seem to be working.........

Well, as someone else here pointed out, this event was scheduled right in the middle of the peek of travel activity. Maybe it would have been better to have scheduled it a month or two later...

But that's all water under the brudge.

When is the next Amiga event? Is there another one coming up soon?

In any event, I hope the guy who had to cancel this event doesn't give up on the proepect of running one later on. Things WILL pick up, provided we DO see new Amigas coming out...

This is sad news.

Darren, you have attended and supported ALL Big Bash events and 3Cag were all set to attend your first Show.

The Scene seems to be at an all time low at the moment and with your personal traumas at home I understand how you came to your decision.

Keep well

Paul
