| My God! This is still being developped!? I bought a copy and ran a multiline BBS with it for many years in the nineties. This was an elegant and powerful piece of software in the days of BBS'ing and in combination with the multi-tasking Amiga and a multiport serial card, the envy of most non-Amiga owning sysops running or wishing to run a multiline BBS innexpensively. I had lots of fun running, customizing and coding in AREXX for this thing and spent WAY too much time in never ending debates and flamewars about whether the PC was better than the Amiga - sound familiar? Just like their is now, there was a popular insult that too many people enjoyed hurling at others when they either did not like them or did not agree with their opinions: "Lamer" The equivalent Today is "Troll." Funny how the more things change, the more they stay the same. Last edited by elatour on 04-Jan-2007 at 03:29 PM.

I guess I am showing mine also since I remember and understand all that elatour is saying. Oh, how time rolls on.

| Wow. I wasn't rich enought to have an amiga to run Cnet. hehe. I was running some crappy bbs on my vic-20 back in 84. I forget what program it was though...not c-net for sure. _________________ -- -- aka Tony Rocks

| Nice to see new versions of this software. I still connect to some bbs's sometimes via telnet.
But I'm not a fan of CNet BBS software,, why? because every bbs I have connected to have million of questions I have to answer. I have also chatted to a sysop on a Cnet board (dont remember the name),, and he told me he cant disable the questions! lame! _________________ Recorded Amiga Games | My Site | Ruff 'n' Tumble | YouTube

| I agree with you 100% People were trying to compare Cnet to Wildcat BBS for PC What a laugh i had :) i ran different BBS SW in the 90's first 1 was Paragon BBS which was pertty good then after that i ran MaX's BBS which i had fun with that 1 too small tho :) then CNET 3x took the BBS OFFLINE in 99 left the Amiga Planet , then came back Early 2006 & decided to put the BBS back Online then i ran into a guy on here telling me that CNET BBS was being developped again how happy i was! :)
So now its done!
Just waiting for my Copy:)

I have been using CNet BBS since Ken Pletzer was coding it back in v 3.05, and yes you can disable the questions. I assume you are talking about the profile questions after you tell CNet if you want to use 40 or 80 columns or if you want to use ASCII or ANSI display. If it is those questions, the sysop can simply remove them. But as a sysop, I keep them for one reason. So I know who is using my system and what I can do for my users to make it more interesting.
But if it is those questions about your terminal and such, how will the BBS know what to display for you? _________________ Follow the Amiga Roundtable Podcast on Twitter! http://twitter.com/amized AmiZed Studios Website - Amiga Roundtable * Carrier Whistle * NewsTek

| These questions..
You will now be asked to enter personal data items...
street adress zip code phone number birthday date
etc.. etc.. etc.. etc..
this should be enough
1.Choose a nick name you want to use 2.Where did you come from? 3.Choose a password 4.Do you want to use ansi color? Last edited by hipoonios on 06-Jan-2007 at 05:52 PM.

Ken Pletzer,.. now there is a name I haven't heard in a loooong time. I used to run a multiline BBS in the metro Detroit area (313/810) on an Amiga 2000 running Excellsior! and later Cnet Pro. From what I recall the entire logon process was customizeable so you should be able to disable whichever questions you want. _________________ -Mike A4000D 040 2Chip/16Fast 3.1 Roms A1200 020 2Chip 3.0 Rom Alaptop WinUAE 040@702Mhz 8Chip/512Fast 3.1 Rom

| @hipoonios Granted, Street Address is kinda not needed, as well as Phone number now a days. But the rest to me seems kinda relevant.
I used to have a script on my old dialup version of Amiga-Z that would take the birthday info and then drop it into a calendar script if you made your birthday public info. And all those pieces of info can be flagged as private so only the Sysop can see them, plus you can just put in a space or NA or something so you can just by pass it.
But then you may not get access from the Sysop. I personally plan on doing contests on my BBS, so that info would be needed to mail out a prize. And I know that Black Phantom on WOI has done a contest here and there for prizes.
But I do see your point.

Yeah, but it escapes me how right now. I'll have to dig out my v3 manual and check or just wait till the new one comes out next month.
But yeah, I tracked Ken down online a couple years ago, emailed him and invited him to check out my BBS. And sure enough he did! He didn't even know people were still using CNet since the whole Commodore bankruptcy. He's doing audio software now that he uses at his church from what I saw on his website.Last edited by MobbyG on 06-Jan-2007 at 11:03 PM.

| Man those were the most fun days in all of my computing history! Coming home to check the Byte Buyer BBS for new listings.
