Software News   Software News : AbiWord 2.5.1 for Cygnix (AmigaOS 4) released
posted by CygnusEd on 17-Apr-2007 11:46:24 (14167 reads)
The first release of AbiWord 2.5.1 is now available on OS4-depot.

AbiWord is a professional
word processor with a lot of features:

1. A familiar interface
2. Outstanding file import and export, with support for MS Word,
WordPerfect, OpenOffice, OpenDocument and more
3. Unlimited undo and redo capacity
4. Solid (X)HTML export, with CSS styles support
5. Images
6. Spelling support, with optional underlining. Supported spelling systems:
ispell, aspell and myspell.
7. Bullets and Lists
8. Styles
9. Table of Contents generation and customization through the Stylist
10. Complete, intuitive revisions-tracking support
11. Nested tables support, nearly unmatched in the field
12. Mail merge
13. Bidirectional text support
14. Command-line and server use modes for document processing capabilities
15. Script plugin with support of script in unix style
DOS and ARExx scripts are possible.
16. HTML online help files are included (english, french, polish)
...

Download: http://os4depot.net/index.php?function=showfile&file=office/wordprocessing/abiword.lha
Homepage: http://www.abisource.com

Additionally for displaying the online help files the KHTML based browser "osb-browser"
is included! This browser has following features:

1. Standards compliant (X)HTML rendering engine with CSS support.
2. Javascript support.
3. SSL support.

Homepage: http://gtk-webcore.sourceforge.net

Although this browser still has some problems, it works perfect in combination with
AbiWord. A lot of internet pages can also be viewed, others are problematic. Because
of this, the browser is not released as a separate package.
Please refer "AbiWord.guide" for more informations!

First big app gap plugged.

Things are starting to shape up well.

Just the opposite as a Windows PC that it become more and more useless as time goes on and you need to upgrade to a new one to be again useful

Congrat's , Everyone with OS4. This looks like great news.
Now i wonder how much of www.iamiga.info the Osb-browser will display?
A screenshot would be great (i hope)?

@iAMIGA

here

you can see a screenshot, but at this point the cpu use rise to 100%
and nothing more happens on the browser, it seems not very usable
for web browsing

@Pvanni
Thanks for trying it out.
I have made a version just for OSB, http://www.iamiga.info/for-osb it's stripped of netdissaster and video.
i could remove the netdissaster from the main page too, but i really want to keep the video, because youtube gives me a lot of back-links when people cliks through to their page from iAMIGA.

Operating speed was really low here (G3@666 Radeon9250) any hint?
Scroling especially was really poor
