Announcement   Announcement : Open Video Toaster gets a much needed facelift & now has more code!
   posted by DiscreetFX on 20-Jun-2007 3:06:14 (2493 reads)
Thanks to the hard work of Tom Richard, the Open Video Toaster website has gotten a much needed face lift. Also, more code is now available on the site thanks to great, long time Amiga Video Toaster Flyer developer ProWave (Bill Evans). The original promotional video given away by NewTek to sell the Video Toaster is now on the site. Since this video was NTSC, many Amiga owners in Europe and other countries that use PAL or SECAM never got to enjoy this VHS video.

DiscreetFX and NewTek are providing this code to the Amiga community to say thanks for your support.

http://www.openvideotoaster.org

DiscreetFX hosts this code to show apprication of NewTek's long and rich heritage. Amiga fans are free to download, study, & hack away on it and enjoy. This important piece of coding history could have been lost if it was not for NewTek, Bill Evans and DiscreetFX. The CEO of DiscreetFX made it a point to hunt this down for many years and get it released!

This is great. All this quality software now open source!

Hoping we'll eventually see a port of the Flyer in particular as there's no video editing tool for OS4 ATM and that one shouldn't require special hardware if I'm not mistaken.

Most notably missing from the list is... LightWave
I take it NewTek still has a few secrets in there that they don't want to share just yet

@DiscreetFX

I donated to OpenVideoToaster some time ago but my name is not on the list and I was hoping for a cd...

My Homebanking says that they transfered the money on 06-Feb-2007.. so have you forgotten about me?

Bill,

Do you have the Flyer developer handbook and the Toaster developer handbook either in printed form or as electronic? I found my copies the other day, I'm sure Newtek would clear them to be added to the site if you dont have them, I could send them your way (as long as Newtek said ok).

@Tigger

We don't have these in electronic form. It would be great to get them and add them to the site if NewTek says ok.

Is it possible to get the compiled code instead of the source? I can not program to save my life.

:)

Open Video Toaster is a nice initiative, but has anyone actually done anything with the source-code apart from downloading it?

Hans

@Kraftwerk2

You would have to ask a friend to compile it for you. NewTek does not want it distributed in binary form.
