Software News   Software News : WHDLoad 16.8
posted by AmiKit on 19-Aug-2007 18:47:51 (2843 reads)
Bert Jahn has released a new version of well known hard disk install utility for games. For more info please visit http://whdload.de/

Read more for the changes in this version... (mod note)

NEW:

* WHDLoad itself disables the interrupts of Mediator boards now while running the installed program, this should solve problems like freezing and gfx/sound distortion on these boards, thanks to John Girvin and Elbox for providing the solution
* WHDLoad now shows the task name on exceptions if there was a working amigaos running, it also shows segment name and offset if SegTracker was running (inside emulation of course)
* option NoMemReverse/S added to the global configuration (Ralf Stützer)
* catalan translation of documentation, thanks to Manel Beltran
* its now possible to use special rawkeys for the QuitKey/N option to let WHDLoad quit from a button press on the mouse/joystick/joypad

CHANGED:

* the install template supports installing from disk images via diskimage.device, trackwarp.library and capsimage.device
* kick31.s supports also the kickstart image from the A500/A600/A2000, with that it is possible to make Slaves using kick31 which are compatible to a 68000 CPU (Don Adan)
* WHDLoad now avoids opening the WorkBench screen after exiting, older versions have always opened the WB if no other screen was left open, requires at least v39

FIXED:

* the requester displayed when audio.device is already used defaults to 'ignore' now, so it works in combination with option NoReq/S (Horace)
* the online help displayed when WHDLoad is called from the CLI without arguments has been fixed for the options Cache/S and DCache/S (Hexaae)
* CLI args fixed to fault on too many arguments (Psygore)

I love this program, one of the best registrations I ever done.

I remember a good while back, people asking for an OS4 version. The natural answer was that it would never become an emulator. I have another thought, would it be possible for WHDLoad to automatically create a virtual drive for use with a UAE executable (Maybe defined in the games icon) therefore making it launchable from OS4.

I have done this manually for some of my games & I seem to remember a program that does this on OS4Depot but I think it'd be nice if WHDLoad could do it eliminating the need for external programs or scripts.

But enough of my babble, thanks for the continued support.

FuZion.

Great work!

Fuzion: THey are working on the Classic. If you want to run the whdload games from Uae, no problem. Just set up a workbench and install as normal.

This would have to be made with scripts etc..

@pavlor

Yes but remember to read the comment section for “WHDLOAD to UAE”, one tiny bug in the startup-sequence script.

And remember the program does not magically support all new arguments of the AmigaOS3.x program.

Well I wrote the “WHDLOAD to UAE” program, and worked for me, well I have read the readme for nIdeaOS4plusUAE and think it interesting concept drag and drop, I do how ever have quite a few tricks for UAE, for exsample the “ADF to UAE” program, and “PPMORE to UAE” program and so on, well thats how I do it, no need for drag and drop, AmigaOS4.x finds the command and executes as it does under OS3.x, whit tiny difference it starts UAE first.

Thanks guys for the links. My main idea was to see if there was any chance of having something built into WHD therefore removing the need for external scripts & programs (Apart from UAE of course).

But thanks again for the links. I'll give em a blast.
