Good news. Now well have 2 ftp programs native on os4 :)

EDIT: Did a quick test to send a file from my A1 to Xbox and it went fine.
However the levelmeter/cps was not shown anything until the file were at about 70% but i heard on the harddisk that there were activity. Works nice.

Im not used to one window ftp system so it took me a while to press the upload button :)

Great!

Haven't done any speed tests since I'm back on 10Mbit now and my girlfriends computer would be too slow to use for benchmark on our LAN.

AmFTP (68k) could do over 6MB/s (i.e. 55-60Mb/s). I wonder if AmiFTP (OS4) can do a full 100Mb/s (should be about 12MB/s)..?

AmiFTP has been my constant companion from the start.

I am happy that we will have a native, PPC, AmigaOS4 version.

So. To whom can we send $ and feature requests?

I've been using AmiFTP for years and have been using the OS3 version with OS4. Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the new prefs so I'm using the old version again. I run all my Internet programs on a seperate screen; in fact it's my AWeb screen. I have a script that opens AWeb, opens IBrowse on the AWeb screen and then I have all my other Internet applications set to run from AWeb and IBrowse buttons.

The new AmiFTP refuses to open on a seperate screen when started. Even though I set the public screenname (AWeb) in the prefs and save the prefs, AmiFTP opens on WorkBench and the saved screenname isn't listed in the prefs. When I look at the XML prefs file, the "AWeb" screenname is listed. Apparently, AmiFTP isn't reading all the prefs items when it starts; even though the settings were saved and are in the prefs file. When this is fixed I will switch back to the OS4 version. For now, the OS3 version is working fine for me.

I'm really glad you were able to recover the sources for this old but good FTP program. I use it a lot. Thanks.

@Xenic

That is strange, I have no problems opening AmiFTP on my AWeb screen. After opening prefs and typing "AWeb" in the public screen name gadget, it jumps to AWeb screen directly after pressing ok.

It will jump to a public screen but it won't open on the public screen if you save the prefs. Here is what I mean:

Start AmiFTP.

Open prefs and enter a public screen name in "Settings/Global/Display/Public Screen" gadget (AmiFTP will jump to the screen - AWeb in my case).

Save the settings with the "Settings/Save Settings" menu item.

Close AmiFTP.

Open AmiFTP again and it opens on WorkBench screen. Open prefs and the screen name is blank in "Settings/Global/Display/Public Screen" string gadget.

Look in the AmiFTP.xml file and the screen name is there. AmiFTP is just not loading and using that prefs item.

Ah, ok! That made it more clear. Will check that out ASAP. Thanks for the quick answer.

@all

The current report address is not working, hopefully that will be fixed this week. In the meantime please use this address jocke.birging@gmail.com.

@cope

It seems my check for AISS is broken, until I can release a fix there are two options. Either update AISS to the latest version, or uninstall it altogether. I would suggest updating it though

At least that's my guess, it's been reported by another user as well.

Joachim Birging

@zerohero

I tried it out, did a few LARGE (say 400+ MB files) transfers between my Fedora 7 server and the AmigaOne, on a 100 MBit network. Speed wise it wasn't too bad, averaging between 5.5 to 6 MBytes/s. This seems to be about the best I can get from the A1 no matter what I do, just a tad slower than my PC doing the same (it averages about 7 MBytes/s on large transfers).

However, I was getting occasional "random" GRs, of the DSI type, when I did certain things. Primarily I got them while creating server entries in the server list (usually after I finish the settings and go back to the list window), but also sometimes on disconnecting from the server on a transfer. In most cases I was able to tell GR to ignore them, and I was able to continue on to exit the program no problem.

However, in one case ignoring the DSI resulted in an immediate new GR, of the ISI type. I tried continuing a couple times, but that didn't help (seemed stuck in a loop). After that I killed it and rebooted my A1. I saved one of the crashlogs, but that is at home right now (just finishing up from work for the day).

When I get home I can try some of this again and try to get some crashlogs saved to see if they help narrow down what is happening. I'll also make sure I have the latest AISS, as I'm not sure I'm 100% up to date on that (though from other posts, I should be getting a different error if that is the case).

Good work, though. Glad to see this one come back.

I updated AISS and still the same. I am not in a hurry for the program right now, but I am going to appreciate it when its ready. Thanks for developing it. It was embarassing to have to take my files over the WindBlows to tansfer files to the server. AmiTrade was only good for small files for some reason.
Best,
John Paul
