Software News   Software News : STRICQ
   posted by VooDoo on 14-Dec-2007 17:07:38 (3220 reads)
Stricq, an ICQ client - updated by Nogfx and Michael Malyshev

A GPL ICQ client based on original Stricq sources provided kindly by Douglas F.
McLaughlin (STRICQ), but probably outdated. The main differences with the last
version released are Locale.library support (50% translated) and small GUI
changes (especially Loading and About window)

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.- Stricq Crashes when I quit A.- If you're using TWFMultiled.mcc, please use
lamp.mcc instead until I find the bug... (the same error seems to occur with
Napster so it's probably not Stricq's fault but TWFMultiled's...)

I had the impression that this application was long gone.
Thanks for reviving it. I'll download it later.

well... I uploaded the changes I found in Nogfx web page because I thought it would be a pity that his work got lost (specially locale stuff)... but I think the changes should be integrated with the official branch pointed out by Zero hero: http://sourceforge.net/projects/stricqv2/

Who knows, maybe it's useful to catch the attention of any developer

@kriz:

It's not working, and the default server login.icq.com:5910 isn't working either...

Seems StrICQ is pretty useless in this condition.

@kriz

I uploaded it to avoid losing the changes forever... as Exie says "for historical reasons".

I didn't want it to appear in the news section or anywhere. If the poster of the news item had checked out the Stricq support page he would have discovered that last time it was updates was in 2001.

Anyway Zero-hero pointed me to the right direction, Version2 in the sourceforge site. I don't know if v2 will be able to connect to a modern server (I don't know) but at least with that 2 versions there are more chances for a qualified coder restarting the project.

BTW, doesn't Jabberwocky work with icq?
