posted by Petah on 12-Feb-2008 22:22:52 (5021 reads)
Another Origyn update was released on Tuesday February 12th, bringing up the version number from 1.8 to 1.9. Changes include a new progress bar, Workbench tooltype support, a home gadget and a few bug fixes. As always, the complete program can be found on strohmayer.org as a 2.3 MB 7 Zip-archive along with a complete changelog.

About Origyn
Origyn is a free web browser originally designed for cell phones, set top boxes and other consumer electronic gadgets. It rests on a SDL -implemented version of Apple's WebKit rendering engine. The AmigaOS version is available exclusively for OS 4.0 and is to this date the only Amiga HTML browser with official support for Cascading Style Sheets. Since the its introduction in December 2007, Origyn has for AmigaOS has enjoyed several updates stirring up quite some interest among Amiga users in the process.

@raumfahre

Don't you think that the ibrowse team got enough brains to decide that for themselves without getting the same suggestion over and over again for several years?

Well, I have some strange connection problems with OWB... on most sites I use OWB stops loading at a certain point and waits a looong time until it decides to display the site respectively parts of it. Most of the time pictures included from other sites are missing, sometimes it hangs for .js files (e.g. when accessing gmx.de). I have this accessing aw.net, too. Using IBrowse, loading of all sites is lightning fast (although the layout is broken sometimes). I don't use any proxy for both.

Anybody else have this problem?

Yes, it seems to render 'all at once' vs progressively. Unsure if that can change easily or not usinf SDL, although I expect not.

AFAIK, there's no javascript support in OWN, either... ?

Give it some time..OWB is a nice gift as it is, although obviously not 'a real browser' quite yet..

Precisely, I'd hazard a guess that the people who don't like MUI are the ones who've never written any sort of complicated user interface with either ReAction or MUI...

Well you would guess wrong then.

Anyway, this has been discussed to death already so I've only got one more thing to say; 'Boooooooo, ReAction sucks!'

Well judging by your post I'd hazard a guess that all MUI programmers have oversized egos. How's that for a guess ???

Now I'll just go back to making my "crappy" ReAction GUIs...

I've written apps using both MUI and ReAction; including writing custom MUI and ReAction classes. I prefer ReAction on OS4, although I accept that at this time MUI has some features that ReAction doesn't. I decision to use ReAction for Pete's FTP wasn't just because ReAction is the OS4 standard GUI, it was also because I happen to like it.

Okey, so how do you get this to work?

Which required object does it need?

edited to add, found out: http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=25502&forum=32&10

I've been upgrading OWB since it came out & I've noticed some files have gone missing now. The UI directory is missing, I assume that was the old gui? Also the fc-cache & font.conf files are no longer included, are they not needed anymore? I have C:fc-cache from the older archive, do I still need to run it & do I still need to keep font.conf in the _truetype font directory?

Love the progress.

Version 1.10 seems to give a lot of yellow warnings in top of the screen, you can click through them eventually.

Any ideas as to the cause.

OWB also seems to be looking for a non-existent font, Bitstream Cyberbit, could this be the problem ? Where can it be downloaded from ?

Surely system fonts that everyone has should be used as much as possible rather than relying on third party creations ?

Bill.
