Software News   Software News : PowerPC Wrapper available
   posted by GuruMeditation on 29-Mar-2008 22:37:27 (8538 reads)
We are pleased to announce that as of today, you can download the WarpOS wrapper library from aminet and os4depot. The library has been updated to work on the very latest AmigaOS 4 and will enable you to run WarpOS applications and play WarpOS games.

This library will open up a range of games, scene demos and applications, however, if it uses Warp3D you may have to use software 3D renderer, which should work fine on an AmigaOne. This is due to how the software was written - if it was written in a correct and system-friendly way, it should work just fine.

Never expected to see this! Good news, particularly for Earth 2140, Payback and Wipeout 2097 (though I have actually yet to try these...).

All we need now is a new NallePUH so Playback doesn't crash. How much memory does this thing need? I have 34MB free and it won't work.

@Hypex

What won't work? Memory requirements depend on which program you're trying to run.

Thanks for this nice update, much appreciated. I have tried it only with the Wipeout and Payback demos and they both don't work, unfortunately. I get many DSI errors, the last of which can't be skipped. I have tried this on an OS4 July update setup. I have posted two crashlogs here and here.

Oh I see the problem! I invented a new game called PlayBack! It's just like Payback.

Okay, it wasn't memory, I tested with a fresh Workbench and 140MB. It still failed! Ran in CLI, it fails to open audio.device! Is this a bug somewhere?

[Test AHI, working.]

@Hypex

Silly me.

@all

I'd advise everyone to read the guide that comes with it. It lists a number of games and how to get them working.

For the wipeout demo, disable mipmapping, enable AHI audio, and disable both CD audio and play intro. It's a good idea to set the resolution to 640x480; otherwise you'll get audio stuttering (the old hardware locking issue with Warp3D). However, if you do that, limit the frames per second to 30, or the game will be uncontrollably fast.

@Rob

Unfortunately, Payback only work "silently". The sound is still gone. :/
WipeOut2097 works ok, though. Quitting crashes my A1, but the actual game works fine.

I wonder if I'll ever be able to play these two (and others) with my joypad... ;)
ANy news on AmigaInput?

The problem here is that I can't even reach the configuration GUI, it gurus as soon as I launch the exe.

Payback= No luck on July-update on XEG4+Radeon. I copied the libraries to Libs:
manually as the Intaller Gurued. Get Get Grimms and after Ignoring DSI:s twice It flashes from the loading page but no loading, The indicator stays just red.

This is the original Payback-full, Hope to get it work as it was quite playable with 060+PIV but could fly now. Played it through twice.

@PR

Only tried once, but Payback played well here. No sound and you have to endure a couple of GRs, but the game played well.
Are you sure you selected the correct version? And did you set it to use sofware rendering?

Okey how do you disable the intro of Wipeout 2097, when it crashes when you start it, and can't get to the prefrence screen?

@Brandon Lee

Re-Installing from the cd now and downloaded the Update7 but not the Warp3d (for hardware acceleration) from apex-designs.net . I'll report after (a crash;) ) what happened... Select software rendering at the menu in the game
If I can remember correct? And if it can be accessed.

...OK. Installed again and tried the cd version straight away because the installer for the update 7 gives a grim and locks up. No luck anyhow. Tried Installer from 2004 and this July Update Workbench versions. Well the game was fun but not now. And if You drive from the wrong side of the lane for me and most of the people I'll just boot up the lovely Vista where everything works and start GTA. The traffic even goes the right side! How hard would it be to reverse it and port to OS4? I'm not surprised if the game didn't sell too well but about England etc. I quit. No help from this wrapper. Very disappointed, sorry. My machine is *ucked up then maybe. I'll try to update manually but better boot the pc and forget too complicated tasks with this A1;)
