Software News   Software News : Epistula Instant Messenger Update
   posted by Slash on 17-May-2008 14:56:42 (6588 reads)
Here's a new release of Epistula, epistula.library and the MSN plugin, all of which have had many pieces of code rewritten in my never ending quest to make Epistula as stable on other people's Amiga's as it is on mine.

Click read more

If installing as an update, you will need to backup your epistula.xml and msn.xml files before installing as they will be overwritten.

Please download the update from my website by right-clicking and selecting to download the file from the following link: Epistula 52.19. You must download via this method as the filesystem on the server isn't setup correctly for .lha files.

Feedback required, as per normal.

If you've downloaded the update before 4.10pm BST then please download again because I forgot to remove the expat.library requirement from the MSN plugin, so if you can't get it to initialise that is why.

This is fixed as of 4.10pm. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@All

Typical... I knew something would slip through the net! Here is the latest compactwindow.mcc, which should go into MUI:Libs/mui/

CompactWindow v15

@slash
I downloaded that file and copied .mcc to MUI:Libs/mui/ and rebooted and I get this error message still: "Couldn't open required MUI custom class 'CompactWindow.mcc' v15.0" !!! There's only that .mcc file in the archive but .mcp is missing or is it required at all ?!

Try downloading and installing the full 68k version of CompactWindow and then overwrite the compactwindow.mcc with the one from my archive to see if that makes a difference.

Other than that, if it doesn't work I'll remove the dependancy from software as it doesn't really require it for this version, but will do for the next.

Doesn't work here. Where does this CompactWindow v15 come from btw?

EDIT:

It does when I installed hvdragbar.image as well, my bad.

Thank you Daniel!

I'll test it ASAP!

It's nice to see some friendly competition between SabreMSN and Epistula

I can confirm this. It's working now after copying hvdragbar.image from MCC_CompactWin.lha (from AmiNet) to "sys:Classes/images/". (Copying it to "MUI:images/" didn't help.)

Edit: (I thought MUI images belongs to MUI:images not Classes/images, and still IMHO. But somehow it worked even in Epistula/images. )

I managed to obtain the sources from the original author and compile OS4 native versions of CompactWindow.mcc and TearOffBay.mcc but I got stuck with TearOffPanel.mcc when it started using nasty hacks and undocumented features of MUI.

I do plan to release them all at some point.

I won't be releasing any more AIM/ICQ plugin updates until I've got Epistula stable on everyone's machines. I'm also attempting to build a Yahoo plugin from some sources I found on OS4Depot but it's proving to be a bit of a pain in the ####.

You shouldn't copy anything like that into Epistula/images/. I'm surprised that it worked at all to be honest. I would have thought you only need to install the full 68k version and then replace the MCC with the OS4 native one.

@All
Thanks for the kind words, I'll try and make this a regular weekly update so long as I can get my other work out of the way first.

So has anyone had any problems with freezes? Crashes on exit etc?
