| I got this message when launching epistula:
"Couldn't open required MUI custom class 'NBitmap.mcc' v15.3
Currently installed is 15.4, please upgrade............
Slash, I hope that you're still there and can fix this? |

| Crashes and burns here when trying to connect.
It may be related to connecting trough a proxy? Perhaps... unfortunately it throws DSI exceptions and Grim Reapers when it shows the error authenticating window.
I can't connect using SabreMSN (but it doesn't crash) so I guess the connection problem may be similar.

| No problems connecting here. Installed the two mui libraries by hand and rebooted. Connection worked ok first time. Got a DSI error when trying to bring config up when connected. No problem bringing config up when not connected. _________________ If your nose runs and your feet smell, you're upside down.

| Same problem here with compactwindow.mcc. I copied the versions from the epistula archive, rebooted, but epistula still complains that it needs compactwindow v15.0. "version compactwindow.mcc full" says I have version 15.0. |

| Amazing what you can do in a field in the middle of no where with a Nokia. It's also amazing that people don't read the readme even when specifically mentioned ;) However I should have mentioned you need to install the latest 68k version of CompactWindow then overwrite the .mcc with the one in the archive. Send crashlogs from .debug version please. _________________ This fire is burnin' and it's out of control It's not a problem you can stop, It's rock n' roll - GN'F'N'R

Must admit, I didn't read the docs even though I read the bit that says I should. In my defense, it was one in the morning when I noticed the update and gave it a go.
Still haven't read the manual since because I'm having some troubles with fonts and the OS4 PDF reader, but that's another story.
Got it going anyway and have to say it's looking good. Getting some random DSI errors but will do a proper narrative on those and send it with the crashlogs, in the next few days. _________________ If your nose runs and your feet smell, you're upside down.

A good programming practice is avoiding asumptions and adding proper error handling: If your app/component needs certain library/component it shouldn't crash when it's not present and it should display an error message informing the user about the lack of certain component version and exit without crashing.Last edited by Crumb on 27-Jun-2008 at 12:39 PM. Please, if you're having problems, i.e. DSI GrimReapers etc then please try the .debug version with a nice healthy stack and send me the crashlogs. Remember, I cannot fix these things if you don't help me track these bugs down as I don't have these problems with my installation.

Sorry to sound a bit off, but what kind of error report is that? If it's crashing and burning, or throwing DSI and GrimRepaers then why have I not received several crashlogs from you yet?
Have you tried the .debug version?
I can't fix things if I don't know about the problems you're having. No one else seems to be getting these problems on connection, and I don't have any crashes with my version which sits online for days on end.

Please don't lecture me about good programming practice when the only thing you've pointed out is in no way related to this release of Epistula. The crashes have nothing to do with library/mcc failure.
For the record, Epistula doesn't assume anything about opening components, it opens what it needs and checks versions of libraries and required external MUI classes. It certainly doesn't crash if it can't find a library and it certainly doesn't crash when it can't find a MUI class; on the contrary, it displays a warning message saying that it can't start and states the reason why, and if for some reason intuition.library failed, it will fall back to outputting the error message via DebugPrintF().
The actual problem with CompactWindow.mcc is infact a problem with the class itself. I quickly ported the 68k version and added no checks or such for failure to load images etc, but a failure will stop the class initialising, which in turn fails the Epistula check, and displays a message stating the correct version couldn't be opened. Epistula does NOT crash if this fails, so please stop suggessting that it does.
Also, if I state in the actual news item on AW.net that you should read the ReadMe file in the archive for important information, then quite frankly, I expect you to do that otherwise don't come back to me with problems which wouldn't have occured in the first place if you'd read the news item fully. _________________ This fire is burnin' and it's out of control It's not a problem you can stop, It's rock n' roll - GN'F'N'R

| I have used this latest version yesterday evening and I haven't experienced any problem/crash so far. Well done. BTW I don't know if I have missed this in the readme, does it support avatars? I remember having seen them in a previous version, but I couldn't find any reference to them in the configuration tabs of this version.
