Software News   Software News : Sonix webcam support
posted by corto on 31-Oct-2008 17:46:40 (4083 reads)
Sonix is a new program with a MUI interface that displays pictures from a webcam Sweex 100K. It is a first step and do not expect a great frame rate. But it displays and saves images. At the moment it is not faster than 2 images per second but you can look at screenshots here. The archive contains executable for OS4 and MorphOS. (Read more)

Be careful, within a set of 4 webcams, one has a different chipset that is not supported currently.

If you have a webcam Sweex 100k, I will be please to know if it works.

Other webcam models could work but have not been tested :
- Trust 150 spacec@m
- Trust 120 spacec@m
- Chicony TwinkleCam DC2110
- Sweex 350 Mp
- Genius Webcam NB
There is no guarantee with these models : they certainly use the mode isochronous and Sonix only use the mode bulk. If I remember correctly, once I checked with SpaceC@m 120 and even if the chipset was right, the transfer mode was wrong !

Just out of interest, does it come with sound? or is it images only?

Also, how do you view the webcam images if say, someone wants to view someone else's webcam on another Amiga, i.e Amiga to Amiga?

I ask, cos if we have some event at the next ANT meeting we can stream live webcam pictuures from An Amiga at the venue, just wondering what the other Amiga users would use to view it.

Cool!

I was given a webcam long ago, before OS4-pre, but could never use it. I think it was a Typhoon or something.

I'll dig it out and try. Perhaps it's old enough

Voodoo : Can you list the device properties to see if there is an endpoint Bulk ?

Darth_X : Sorry to disappoint you ... Maybe the name is confusing, it is referering to the chipset of the webcam I worked on. Maybe I will change the name with the support of more drivers.

Mickey_C : This webcam has no sound
To broadcast images, it will be possible with FTP and other Amiga users can see them pointing to an URL with their browser.

AmigaBlitter : As you can see on the snapshot, it already uses MUI : I created a subclass and the only thing you have to add for this display area is :
Child, camdisplay = NewObject(CL_Sonix->mcc_Class, NULL, TAG_DONE),
Of course there are some attributes and methods too.

retro : How does it work ? At the moment, the program is able to acquire images, display them (with a choosen delay) and them an image when you want. There is no communication with other computers. No video recording at the moment.

After code cleaning and maybe the support of another chipset, I will give the source code. It will be a good example.

seemed to make the same as sonix program. of course, much more advanced.

AS all could imagine, all amiga users dreams to have a webcam viewer/player, who work with all chat programs.

No need to have the program integrated on others programs (jabber, sabreMSN,...)...IMHO.

I'm sure if a programmer want to have some registered money, It's a good idea IMHO..

As I said, the viewer is already using a MUI class so it won't be difficult to add it into a existing project.

fingus : There is no one Logitech chipset. For example with the model Sweex 100K, I've found 3 different chipsets. Some Logitech chipset are well known but at the moment, the major blocking thing is the support of the mode bulk.

Thanks to all that sent me information, I know more now. I know which webcam to buy and which feature to implement to continue.
