Software News   Software News : Updated Expat XML Parser for AmigaOS
   posted by ssolie on 6-Feb-2009 2:53:44 (3027 reads)

With the release of the AmigaOS SDK V53 it was time for an update to the official AmigaOS version of Expat 2.0.1.

Four library flavours are now supported:
1. static clib2 (libexpat.a)
2. static newlib (libexpat.a)
3. AmigaOS library (expat.library)
4. AmigaOS shared object library (libexpat.so)

Read more...

Expat may help serve as an example for other library authors that want to support all the library flavours available in AmigaOS.

Grab it from OS4Depot.

Changes include:
- integrated 68k patches from Fredrik Wikstrom which means
expat.library is now callable from 68k code
- bumped version for the addition of the 68k interface so
executables can explicitly ask for version 5 and know
it includes the 68k interface
- refactored Makefile to avoid recursive make calls and
build all the library flavours
- added static newlib version
- added shared objects version
- compiled with SDK 53.13 (GCC 4.2.4) at -O3

Neither the AmiUpdate scheme nor the OS4 Depot scheme have a clear install procedure.

Am I missing something? Or is this one of those "copy one file at a time" situations?

@Stephen_Robinson

Does your browser not show the news title or something?

"Updated Expat XML Parser for AmigaOS"

And if that's not enough there's always the link to the Expat project page.

And this library works in Amiga 68K too? because the xmlviewer_os3 ask it and I don't have the last version for 68k.

Yes this library is PowerPC native and will work whit 68k software, you need AmigaOS4.x to use the library.

@ssolie

Masturbation. Since you ask. In this case it was used as a slightly more polite, and more humourous alternative to the Satanic F-word. You know the one.

So, what does it do ? Why should I need it ?

What about a news item like this :
'XMl parser library for OS4 released, it does a and b and requires c...' Is THAT to hard to do ??

Cheers

Martin

@Metalheart

If you have to ask then you probably don't need it.

IMO a long text explaining what the XML format is, which is what you would need, would not be appropriate for this news item.

Why not try typing "XML" into google if you're really interested.

@Templario

xmlviewer_os3 doesn't work with the current OS4 expat.library that's available on OS4Depot, but I have made some changes to the 68k stub functions that enable xmlviewer to work without crashing. I have sent the code changes to Steven Solie so hopefully they will be included in the next version/release of expat.library.
