Software News   Software News : Celestia for AmigaOS4 released
   posted by afxgroup on 5-Apr-2009 15:00:14 (5678 reads)

Hi,
This is a Port of Celestia for AmigaOS4

You will find all informations about Celestia on the official site: http://www.shatters.net/celestia/

This package contains only minimal objects, so maybe you have to download all other stuff searching with google

The window resolution is set too 800x600 and should be usable to all our Video Card. Don't use really high resolution or you will encounter an "Out of Memory" error.

Thanks to Hans de Ruiter for his *HUGE* work on the MiniGL (required to run Celestia correctly).

@afxgroup

I noticed that even the included models (ISS, Apollo 11, Cassini) are not drawn correctly, there's something wrong with the light shading, because polygon vertices are either full back or full white, with no shades in between, except for the bilinear interpolation which is performed between the vertices. Are you aware of this problem?

There's also the colour tinting problem that planets/moons which are drawn seem to inherit the tint of overlay text. For example you go to the moon, it has a greyish colour, then if you press 'm' which enables drawing the labels of moons, you see the text 'Moon' appear on top of it in cyan colour, which is fine, but the whole colour of the moon becomes cyan. The interesting thing is that if you then press 'm' again to disable labelling of moons and you press 'p' to enable labelling of planets, then the moon gets a blue tint, which is the same colour in which labels of the planets are shown, but the strange thing is that this happens even if none of the labels are visible on the screen. My guess is that the drawing colour is changed with glColor3f() when drawing the labels, and somehow this colour is used when drawing the polygons of the planets, when it should not be used. It's most likely a MiniGL bug.

i've changed nothing related to celestia draw model, so if there is a problem maybe could be in the minigl code.
I think that project like this can help Hans a lot. So we all developer should test minigl as much we can.. and you must convert warpview to use minigl.. :D

I`ve downloaded and installed the app on my hd, but it won`t start. I`ve copied the latest MiniGL libraries in LIBS: (mglut.library & minigl.library)

@Cass

What graphic card are you using? I've got a Radeon 7000 and have the same problem.

@Valiant
I`ve got a CV-3D, but I think it`s a system free memory problem (I got a CSPPC, with 128MB RAM, 80MB free after booting WB).
