I'm glad I got the last 800Mhz flex from Amigakit.

It's hard to increase the OS4 userbase when delivery sucks big time.

What about us who already own a Sam with AmigaOS 4.1?? Why should i have to pay twice for exact same version of OS4.1 when i already own and paid for a copy?

@Tomas

Nobody complained with the classic Amiga's?!? So why now?
The OS licence is simply tied to the hardware!

The only thing I can complain about is the fact that they announce
hardware prices without the inclusion of the OS. A bad idea because
questions like these arise.

Hi Tomas,

We know that, but unfortunately, we can't do it in another way, we're obliged to buy as many AmigaOS 4.1 as Sam's motherboard, so we can't separate it.

This is absolutely not a decision from us.

Sorry for that,
Laurent aka Faranheit

Exactly. Either ACube underestimated demand again, or they didn't have enough source capital to finance a larger batch... of the production factory deliveries suck... who knows? Either way, the news can hardly be read as good (especially as the 800MHz Flex went up in price).

@Faranheit
That is what i thought. But either way it is a stupid decision by Acube/Hyperion. I am much less likely to upgrade if i must pay twice for a copy i already bought. I could understand it if it was a different version targeting a different hardware architecture.

Probably because there is no 800mhz cpus. They use lower end cpus which they have to test and then overclock. Not all these cpus can be overclocked to 800mhz which probably explains the delays.

Is there really so much difference between 800 mhz and 667 ??

Btw does the ARM board for the MiniMIG fit in Lorianos box ?

@Mr_Bug:

The ARM controller should fit in the Minibox because there are high enough.

@ALL:
For the delay for the 800Mhz version, please not the explanation from ACube :
"The new batch of SoC from AMCC are different. The new SoC do not allow upgrading to 800Mhz easily..."

So, it takes much more time to get these new SoC from AMCC working at 800Mhz in other words.

For the moment, please consider ordering the 667Mhz version ;)

Thanks, Laurent aka Faranheit

1) Amiga and Hyperion stated from the beginning that any authorized hardware would require an OS license. Since you are going to pay for an OS license, the smart thing for you to do is accept the OS media included with that license, even if you already have a copy.

Did anyone buy their new Classic Amiga but demand the ROMs get removed first and the price reduced?

2) Acube already said that not all of the CPUs could reliably work at 800Mhz. The also have to spend time testing and modifying them. That means higher labor costs, and fewer available 800Mhz boards. If you don't understand this, go back to item 2 on this list and read again.

Do you think all the complaints about hardware prices make ACube hope they can sell large batches of their most expensive board, even if that gives a slight discount? No.

3) I also want a backplate, but I'm glad I could buy the SAM before waiting until the backplates were ready.

Would you use one copy of Windows on 2 PCs? If yes, then you are a pirate.
It's exactly the same for OS4.

Who said anything about using one copy on two computers?? You can also run linux on those acube boards. If i decided to upgrade sometime in the future then i would most likely install linux on my old 533mhz sam and use it as a low powered linux server. There are other ways to stop people from using two copies at once, like maybe a serial key check?

There is no way you can use one copy of windows on two computers anyways, unless you use some kind of crack or keygen.

Purchasing in the Amiga marketplace has been very competitive over the years.
If you want something then you need to buy as soon as you can, before the supply dries up.
Remember Miami DX , Phase V PowerPC boards, Amithlon , Amiga Ones and many others.

I'm sure that's what the unlicensed Windows PC pirates told Microsoft . I am NOT saying you want to pirate, but VERY FEW people are going to want to do what you describe (there being much much cheaper boards to run Linux exclusively). Basically this is the only way to be sure that Hyperion get their dues (serial keys are easily cracked, sad to say), without some sort of dongle (which everyone derided when Amiga Inc announced that for the Amiga Ones).

If you want a Sam440 to install Linux on, then contact ACube direct & ask them about the embedded (non-consumer) version of Sam440ep. I'm sure they'll be happy to help.
