Announcement   Announcement : Icaros Desktop 1.1.2 update has been released
   posted by paolone on 8-Jul-2009 14:30:45 (3608 reads)
A new update for the popular Icaros Desktop AROS distribution has been released. There is no Poseidon yet, but it includes a lot of new programs and features, dozens of little bug fixes, a better desktop environment and improved support for Amiga Forever and 68K applications. Icaros Desktop 1.1.2 is available in two formats: the whole package on a Live DVD for new installations, and an update CD for Icaros 1.1.1 users. The update can be automatically downloaded, mounted and installed directly from Icaros using the brand new LiveUpdater program, also available on the Icaros site. Chek it for screenshots and more informations.

Looks really cool, nice work!

I think for me I would prefer to run it on real PC hardware instead of inside a virtual machine...so I will need the full live DVD I guess. Hopefully it has a nice installer like MorphOS and OS4

Yes, you need the whole DVD. It's actually easy to install on a PC, but please follow the instructions provided in the PDF manual (you can download it alone from the Icaros site) and be sure your hardware is already supported.

Looks good Paolone... unfortunately my first run with it, v1.1.1 didn't work! I burnt it to DVD and tried to run it by booting straight off the DVD on my Dell Latitude D630... after the first screen the screen just stayed blank... couldn't get it to go further...

Will need to try it out again then...

Q!

@QuBe

Please read end of chapter 4.0.6 in Icaros manual. Maybe this will help you.

@paolone

It is great, I tried older versions on vmware but I want to know if this latest version run well under VirtualBox, I prefer it because it is totally free.

@emavys

It runs, you just have to put ATA=nopci or ATA=nodma in the GRUB configuration

@ncafferkey

might be because the processor in my laptop is an AMD? (sempron btw)

AROS runs fine on VirtualBox 2.2.4 and Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (ASUS G1SN laptop). I'm typing this post within AROS.

It looks like an Amiga system on the screenshots which is nice IMHO.

Now, add some killer-apps and I might be tempted to try it out
