Software News   Software News : Eye Viewer SE Final version available
posted by Templario on 19-Jul-2009 11:41:16 (3495 reads)
The latest version of the popular picture viewer Eye Viewer SE has been released by Morguesoft. French speaking members can find an announcement on the French web site Amiga Power.

There are two versions available, a traditional 68k Classic Amiga version, and an OS4.x compatible version tested with a Sam running OS 4.1.

Both versions are now faster and more stable, although unfortunately the OS 4.1 version still has a 68K core which results in the player not working correctly. However the viewer features are all working fine so long as you have the datatypes installed for the formats you wish to use.

You can copy, move, remove, rename, delete, rotate and resize your images. The slideshow feature is able to show the pictures in two different modes, either as a list or with thumbnails (which you can configure size of).

There is also the player for the 68k version, which you can use to hear your mods, mp3, sv8x, wav files.

Enjoy it!

@Templario

If I have mis-understood any of your submission please let me know. I have not looked at the site at the moment, but I think I have reworded your submission so that it reads correctly now.

Ok.. just checked it out and the AP site just announced the release, so I have amended the article to point to the actual developers site.

Software to run on OS4 is always welcome.

Now for the question how do I get images larger then my screen resolution to scale down so I can see the fully?

Very nice app, but must to say, still have somethink which avoid it to be as very good one. The navigation over the directoryes are annoing. I mean you need for all the new picts, press on "open" gadget, then found your dir (wheel not works btw), etc. It's really slowing down work. Imho, the better just add navigation in the left area of screen (where you have list of images). I mean just by ".." , ".". And user can navigate up/down/enter easyly by cursor keys and found anythink more easy. I.e. for the "list" mode do as it's done right now (but add ".." and "."), and for "thumbal" mode the same, but just put thumbals on the main screen.

Second think which i miss (but maybe it's already done, can't found on brief look) - it's "autoresizing to work area size". Really annoing for every picture do manually "-" many times.

Imho potencial of this programm are good. Just (if author want) need a bit update it to make users more happy :) Imho plaing sounds/music can be swith off to the music players (i mean more concrete on image-handling/navigation,etc). A bit remind me ACDSEE (the best win32 viewer imho).

Good one, Thanks.

ps. works stable, have no crashes at all. And at moment nothink which can be called as "glitches". Everythink works fine (peg2/os4.1)

I have some problem to report, first I always get a crash when i try to open a folder in order to choice my directory containing images

http://crashlog.os4depot.net/cl240

Second issue regarding font, if i didn't install Topaz Eye Viewer doesn't show any font in the list of the name of images (left frame in the main window of EyeViewer)

The navigation with the thumbnails to left instead of main right window is because was more easy programmed it, the mousewheel, sorry the program is programmed in AmiBlizt and this function and the slow moving with thumbnails is impossible to get better, because some special routines are programmed with a AmiBlizt 2.4x (I don't remember the number) and this is because in the new version some instruction set have disappear.

The proyect is will thinking to reprogrammed in a new language as Hollywood to do the Eye Viewer with executables for PPC instead of 68k as is the current version, and yes the objetive always have been and will be that Eye Viewer works as ACDSEE our inspiration font; but the AmiBlizt hasn't this possibilities.

So this proyect is made int the free time of my brother, it isn't a proffesional program made for programmers in their work time, it is product of a hobby.

Thank you for the reporting but it not useful for my brother because the program is in AmiBlizt, not in C.

And yes Eye Viewer needs the Topaz font to work and show the messages and names but after you can choose other font.

i've got problems with this program on morphos 2: install script fails right after select "install". i tried toupdate by hand (i had an existing installation of the prev. version). after copied all files EV starts but die right after it opens a grey window. so seems EV is not compatible with morphos 2 and geit's installer.

anyway, about topaz font: its 2009 man, forget the topaz for good for godsake. its annoying to see topaz in modern systems (not that i've seen it coz the program dies, but you mentioned it:)

@Templario

Ok but for the next release would be usefull add some kind of control, I mean if you decide to don't install Topaz, Eye Viewer must set automatically a standard font, maybe the default OS4 font, aniway Topaz is too old as font use another one, OS4 have a great set of font

P.S.
So no chance to catch this bug ?

@templario: sorry to be picky again but running the 68k program on os3.9+ machine i can record just tons of enforcer hits already on start as well as after. in fact my sashimi window ist just scrolling hits as i write without that the program did anything usefull yet. it needs proper debugging if you ask me. why arent you using the curent amiblitz release btw? the problem mit flickering gui has been solved nevertheless.

edit: well on another setup it works well with no hit. strange. i have to investigate into it. accept my excuse, please, anyway.

The problem is the installer of MorphOS that don't respect some script instructions as Complete, as that in OS 3.x and now in Os 4.x yes, the font Topaz you have think that this program is made in OS 3.9 and here works very fine, for one future version maybe we work thinking in screen modes more big.

Well, this is very easy, my brother that programmed this tool in AmiBlizt with some special rotutines own using some libs and instructions, he coulds test that in the new version of AmiBlizt some intructions had disappear and the new not working the same, the current AmiBlizt version changed the old libraries and instruction for other new that don't the same thing.
The current AmiBlitz is reprogrammed for the taste and use of Thilo, that it is good but not for other things.

Aniway is far better in term of speed on OS4 then your oldest release that I try on 68k, this is IMHO a good start

Yes the program is more faster in the thumbnail's mount and the refresh because some options have disappeared, for example the clock and the drag and drop that both did that the program any slow.

Confirmed the Drag&Drop option if is working in the current version, I forgot it, because I use few, but the Favorites List there is a heavy bug in the OS4.x version.
