Software News   Software News : AmiMSN 1.2 Released (19th Jan) Update: Bugfix for 68k available.
   posted by MickJT on 17-Jan-2010 5:03:48 (6467 reads)
Version 1.2 of the AREXX console MSN client has been released.

So what is new?

Read more...

- A sneak peak of direct connection support. If your router supports uPnP, AmiMSN can now receive files via a direct link from Windows Live Messenger and aMSN. This is in a very early stage at the moment.

- A couple of bug fixes that may have prevented some people with a large build-up of offline messages from signing in properly. Note that AmiMSN cannot read offline messages yet.

- Now launches from icons supplied by Martin Merz and Adam (aka Rebel). Thanks to both of you.

- Supports the sending of "User is typing..." messages.

.. and various other minor fixes. Don't forget, AmiMSN has a built in IRC daemon!

You can download it from the very dull main website or from Aminet.

@austgarden

How am I meant to reply to that?

You've been told exactly what the problem is and what is missing, yet you simply say "it doesn't work".

What am I meant to do!?

At MickJT:

OK cool, so Its not here under the name I typed

http://aminet.net/search?query=rx+lib

and it is not here under what I typed, maybe the guy has a point?

http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=search&tool=simple

then again, I may have been able to search the world wide web also.

@Gebrochen

The error is "rxlibnet.library missing from the rxsocket archive".

So, naturally, you get rxsocket, and install rxlibnet which comes with it (not to mention all the other libs that come with rxsocket).

Or am I missing some basic language skills? :) Do I assume too much?

Edit: Your Aminet search link produces the exact file needed. RxSocket. Which is what the error message says you need. I don't know how I can be more clear. The .readme lists the requirements too.

FIRSTLY

Please dont assume Ive downloaded this, I havent, I dont need it, I am using Jahcsoft SabreMSN, and enjoy it.

SECONDLY

I was just merely stating, if the above user was looking directly for the required file via the file mentioned, there comes nothing up in the search results

THIRDLY

Please refrain yourself from assuming things in future.

Cheers

"I was just merely stating, if the above user was looking directly for the required file via the file mentioned, there comes nothing up in the search results"

.. but it does, your search link shows it being right there.

Edit: Also, I said that already. Surely it's OK to assume you read my post?

Why can't I assume anything? Am I meant to make everything completely automatic or something? I need to convert my .readme into a speech file in all languages, automatically turn their speakers on and the volume up? Have it automatically configure their username and password magically.

Obviously there needs to be some assumptons. I assume the most basic, which is that if a program says "You need rxsocket", then they go get it, not say "it doesn't work" and complain.

@MickJT

Try not to be belligerant about this

here let me show you

QUOTE

END QUOTE

I was simply replying moreso to this than yourself to begin with, stating that if this guy was searching for what he said here, THEN YES

I can understand (edit)why(edit) he is having problems finding it.

THANK YOU

Have a nice evening now, move it along

bye bye

Cheers

@Gebrochen

You are the one shouting in caps. I'm merely defending myself, which in essence is the complete opposite of belligerence.

My original post merely stated "what am I meant to do?" and I meant it with sincerity.

The quote, "i get a rxlibnet.library missing from rxsocet socet archive"

"rxsocet" is a typo of "rxsocket".

When the program is ran, it clearly states that rxlibnet is from the rxsocket archive. So I cannot understand any problems finding it.

.. and the link to rxsocket is in the .readme

Edit: Oh man. Look I have to make a comment about "Please refrain yourself from assuming things in future." That is VERY insulting. I don't want to say "AmiMSN needs AmigaOS, which needs a computer, which needs a power point, which needs electricity supplied to your home, hotel or apartment, which needs an agreement with a company that supplies electricity, which needs you to sign a contract, which needs the signer of that contract to be over 18.... etc.. etc.. etc.."

I WILL assume things. Always.

People who don't assume, end up looking like idiots (see how the above statement about electricity and contracts etc.. that just goes on and on would just make me look like an idiot had I actually put that in the .readme?).

Back on topic. What do I do? The requirements are listed. The error message is clear. What do I do? That is the key point.

Even to an english speaker that is unclear It's ambiguos at best, and actually wrong at worst, since it implies thet the desired is missing from the stated archive.

So yes you lack language skills

How about

"rxlibnet.library missing, this can be corrected by installing the RxSocket package"

or something like that?

[edit] corrected my own laguage issues [/edit]

@broadblues

That's the kind of response I was after. No shouting. Just tell me that i'm not clear enough, and i'll accept it, and change the message to something other people may find clearer.

I'm operating at 10% lucidity here :) I feel a long sleep coming on. Glad that was all cleared up.

Edit: broadblues, it's actually exactly "Missing rxlibnet.library from rxsocket archive"; I just double-checked. Not quite as ambiguous.

It's only clearer if you know about the rxsocket library thing, so you making a 'developer assumption' one I could easily make myslef.

Sincve you are using "versbose" error messages hoaw about

"Missing required rxlibnet.library, Is the RxSocket package version XX from installed?"

@ MickJT

Strange, I did not have any trouble understanding. Unusual though since I am usually in the clueless group scratching my head.

I added the Aminet link.

Quote:
That would be "Martin" Merz. Sorry Martin. :)

So, do you want me to change the Mason to Martin in the news item text?

I had no difficult understanding either. If something fails i normally read the readme and if its not there in the requirements i post on forums.

Cheers Mick, this is getting better and better.

Having a problem launching it through IRC, but my memory could be on the blink.
I'll RTFM and get back to you with any issues.

@Gebrochen

FORTHLY

Be careful about your wording in the future, this post was outright hostile. If you do not use it or need it, there is no reason for you to post here. Off you go.

FIFTHLY

If you had a clue you'd have known that Mick has been helping Jahc with SabreMSN.

SIXTHLY

Yes, the wording of that error left something to be desired. No, the way you went on about it was not nice, it was outright pathetic.

@Zardoz

Well we all have bad days, so it rubs off in my typing also, what you want me to do, change myself and not be human.

also

I already knew jahc was getting help from MICK, there was a thread somewhere on here about SabreMSN recieving external help, which is good to see fellow amigans helping eachother out. Infact, I am sure Jahc has had much help in the past from more than one coder in advice and more, etc.

and

I dont see the problem here, I have nothing against Mick, I was merely making a statement that simply could have been avoided true, perhaps next time I wont bother about simple commentary that gets taken way out of whack.

also to note, I did just loose two projects I was working on for the community (MY FAULT = TRUE), ok, atleast we did not loose any code, due to our coder having it on his machine, only the graphics, etc, have been lost, SO

We will see how long it takes me now to try and get something out the door.

End of story, Ive had a horrific weekend, and let out some steam somehwere, not nice I hear you say

TRUE

So MickJT, I apologise for the inconvienince and misunderstanding, but at the same time dont take everything so offensive, when people type, it is hard to pick it up how they would say it in real life.

Cheers

@Gebrochen, we both took each others words as offensive when perhaps we shouldn't have. So I apologise if I offended you too.

Back on topic though. I want some feedback on the direct connections if someone has tried it.
