Software News   Software News : Blender 2.50a Test Release for MorphOS
   posted by Drako on 27-Jan-2010 21:09:38 (3564 reads)
A test version of Blender 2.50 alpha0 for MorphOS is now available for download:

Notes:
- don't expect Blender run on Efika... if it does, be happy!
- blender runs by default in a full-screen Windowed mode, to change the size at startup, use option '-p' with 4 integers separated by spaces after: left-corner-pos top-corner-pos width height.
- don't run blender from the archive, don't forget it's a virtual view in Ambient!
- don't run also from RAM:, Python dynamic module loader doesn't support it.
- known bugs are listed on the following page, don't email me twice
- FFMPEG is enabled and working, but it's not Altivec-accelerated!
- Browsing space with thumbnails enable works, thumb engine caches results in PROGDIR:.thumbnails/
- My build (from official SVN r26240) doesn't suffer of the recent issue on the Windows version (crash at rendering), so use it, use it, use it!

What is so broken in Efika that some apps and games do not run on it?

(or is it just the lack of RAM and virtual memory?)

@KimmoK
It's too slow and limited to be usable by more or less modern apps. All these mother boards with cpus from 300to700mhz it's nothing for the programms which want cpu power for calculating.

@KimmoK

If some complains about over priced hardware, and initial price point for trying MorphOS or AmigaOS, then end result is Efika, Elfika matches its price perfectly for almost nothing you get almost nothing.

Efika has surface mounted RAM, and where limited amount, and the CPU is where slow, think it about 400 Mhz or so.

I think ebay covers the inexpensive market by selling older models whit out warranty, so I don’t understand way the produced Efika, and if a buyers are willing to pay up to new price then that’s the buyers problem.

@Kimmok

It's just the lack of ram. And virtual memory would be extremely painful on such a machine anyway.

@NutsAboutAmiga

At least it's better to get almost nothing for nothing than 1.5 times almost nothing for 5 times that amount of nothing. :)

@some posters

This is a thread about software, why did it become a ####ing contest? WHY?

@zerohero

most of the times is NutsAboutAmiga, with his over-optimistic and utterly exagerating fanboysms (sometimes right while often wrong) that's calling for troubles.

Sorry NutsAboutAmiga ... i can't stand with your posts anymore

Nothing is broken. Just 128 MB (82 MB after system is booted) is not enough for new Blender. Older Blender 2.46 runs just fine, I've modeled and rendered some icons (rather simple objects) in it.
