Software News   Software News : LoView 1.6 released!
   posted by Tuxedo on 16-Feb-2010 22:32:13 (4753 reads)
I just uploaded a new version of my image viewer LoView to OS4Depot...
This release have some nice changes from previous, like initial ToolBar configurablity and a nice edit mode to copy/move/rename/delete options...
Some other new features like a SimpleView mode with borderless vindow and no ToolBar(you can control LoView simply with mouse and/or keyboard...
Now LoView saves also your paths if you like :)

Hope that new release was nice for everyone!

However I'm here for any positive or negative feedback!

Let me know!

EDIT: Please ignore my comments (now deleted), as I was apparently getting your Hollywood app mixed-up with a different one.

LoView seems like quite a nice little picture viewer

Unfortunately speed depends also on datatypes usage...
try to set:

SINGLE_PIC=TRUE

So LoView dont scan the entire dir and will load the selected image only...
For other speedups I dont use any particular effect so I dont know what to optimize...
You can also check if smooth tooltype was set and also scaleUp/down.... so the image was displayed as default size...best speed possible...
However here(A1SE@666) all images up to 5Mpx was displayed rather quick(about 1.5/2 secs with SCALE_DOWN=TRUE)
Problems arrives with bigger images...a 10MPx will takes about 3/4 secs to load...

Better performances wasnt possible sorry
However WarpView(that was a C program) wasnt so faster...about 30% not more, so not to bad LoView speed to me...

EDIT: With SCALE_DOWN=TRUE I get about 30% speedup...

Don't forget a proper icon for the OS3 version (and a set of reduced indexed images, IFF preferred, as 32 bits PNG with alpha channel is very slow on 68k)

(and oh, bubble help when flying over a toolbar button ? Is it possible yet ? Or text instead of images ?)

LoView is a nice idea, but I second ChrisH, you should focus on speed/responsiveness of the interface.

Keep up the good work !

Hi,

Just try the LoView... unfortunately my A1 XE crash after showing a photo, I'll try right now another time and let you know if it's always like that...

few minutes later...

Well no crash this time, speed seems ok for me, I was looking photos at a resolution of1280 x 853.

I'll test more later and let you know!

Bye!

@ thread

Where are people getting v1.6 to test? There is not any link in the news item and only v1.5 is available on os4depot. Maybe there is a hidden area I can't find.

@Tuxedo
Please note my revised first comment...

However, I do have one suggestion. Because SMOOTH=TRUE can cause LoView to "freeze" for a short period when loading a large picture, it would be nice if it ignored additional clicks before it displayed the picture (rather than suddenly responding to all of them).

Although possibly a "busy" indicator would remove the need for that.

Fantastic, works like a charm on Sam!

Can you add full EXIF support? That would be great!

@Amigo1

Its planned for next release(I think for the end of march)...

@ Pierre55

Plz if you gat any crash(Hollywood related or GrimReaper related) tell me!

@AmigaPhil

I'm no good gfx artist so I use AISS...
However if someone will give me that set of icon(preferably gif with trasparent color 0) I will attach it gladly :)
EDIT: AmigaOS3.x version for LoView 1.6 wasnt however planned immediatley...maybe in meantime someone will send me the icon for the ToolBar... :P

@CrisH

Happy now it works as expected :)
For the SMOOTH problem...unfrotunately Hollywood wasnt multithreading and some way of doing things (like getting events) was a bit complex to control since they have some sort of asincronous work...
However I'm worknig on it...same problem if you roll the mouse whell rapidly...you get many pic showed not just one...

A better explanation of my problem:

I click "next picture" button, and nothing happens (because it happens to be a big picture), so I wrongly think I did not click hard enough, and therefore click again. This would NOT be a problem if I had some visual indication that LoView was busy. Ideally a busy mouse pointer, but otherwise something obvious (like say clearing the last picture) to show it did see my click.

I think that "deleting" mouse clicks might be a bad solution, because sometimes it is nice to be able to "click ahead" of a slow app, when you know how the app works.

...or progress bar? would be even better

Anyway, very nice, I like it a lot

BTW. When I change SIMPLEVIEW to 1 or 2, error pops up:

Could not find button 1! File: LoView.hws (current line: 289 - In function: EnableButton)

They do, but that requires I am actually looking at them when I click them (I may click through several pictures & won't look at it every time). Plus I see the keyboard arrow keys change picture without animating the buttons...

Tested right now new version: pretty nice. Feels good, polished, light and simply. Almost first ACDSEE versions clone :) (cool).

But a bit annoy when you press many times left or right, its works like non blocked. I.e. it will calculate all my fast pression, and show all the images. But will be good, if you for example see first image, press even 10 times (fast) button right, and, it show you only next picture, not all next 10 ..

I can try to help here. I'll mail you if I can get something.
(why not PNG instead of GIF ? It has a better compression ratio.)

Welll...
Dunno real performance of PNG on OS3.x...so say GIF...
However if you think that PNG with trasparent color 0 was fine no prob!
