Software News   Software News : SabreMSN 0.68 released with personal avatar support
posted by MickJT on 28-Mar-2010 15:09:13 (6435 reads)
A new version of SabreMSN has been released. 0.68 alpha brings the ability to select your own avatar, fixes various bugs and has a slight UI change.

At the time of posting, only an OS4 package is available.

OS4Depot link
Please read the .readme for more information than just the changelog.

2010-03-28: Alpha 68

- Users can choose their own Avatar now.
- Windows/tabs will not open when a switchboard connects. Instead, they will open when someone types
to you. This way, the switchboards that are opened to download your avatar will not bother people.
- Default graphics is shown when the user has no avatar to download. I dont know how to do graphics.
Any volunteers to make me a better one?
- The "Close Tab" text button has been replaced with graphics, but it looks very ugly.
Any volunteers to make me a better one?
- Avatar cache bugfixed a bit. It was downloading a new avatar for each new switchboard session. It didnt use
the "downoad/dont download" variable properly. No point in a cache then eh!
- "Dont use direct connection" messages were sent over and over before. It's now only sent once.
- Temporary/currently downloading avatars are stored in progdir:cache/trash/ and cleaned on startup, and
avatars are renamed into the cache/trash/ dir if they cant be deleted, to get around issues of locked files
in some circumstances.
- The toolbar automatically hides the borders and text, to make it look more handsome.

Thank you so much! I just love this program and are such an important part of AOS that it wouldn't be as much using it at all without this program. It looks great and works very well (not talking about this version since I haven't tried it yet).

Avatars arent redrawn properly when the window is hidden. Requires the tab to be closed and reopened to see the avatar again. Sorry about that, I don't hide my tabs ever, and I was rushing because I only have limited time to work on personal projects now and this release had taken so long. Should be an easy fix. Will have a look at it in 10 hours or so, I'm on the bus now.

Thanks Jahc and Mick for the latest version. I will send some money in a day or two. Heavy party yesterday so im really tired today. I see you use image for exit a chat. I think the mui one is pretty that you use in wookiechat before the topic. Looks standard and nice.

One thing that dont works now with the new toolbar is the scale funktion. I used 70% before but doesnt work anymore. Probably as you use fixed notext and noborders. Anyway to make the scale work again ?

I know you are going to implement scaling of own avatar picture. Would be nice if the user could choose to see its own avatar half size. Would save some space in the gui.

Thanks :)

@Modfr

It's the obfuscated trebs@ address listed in the .readme if you wish to donate something. Change all threes to an e, and the () is @.

No Paypal link with a button for you to click on, sorry :)

Did you get my email with bugreport. I have a problem that "Defiant" crashes under OS3.9bb2 with Genesis when trying to use SabreMSN. :-/

I've figured out that Defiant is a houskeeping process of WarpOS.

So it's perhaps the PNG WarpOS datatype that crashes.

I'm using powerpc.library version 16.1 as reccomended by warpdt site. So not sure what to do :-/

Progress.

I didn't think to compare the file sizes, only the version strings (version libs:powerpc.library full). Which were identical.

But the file sizes doesn't match.

And now SabreMSN loads, but gives software failure when it connects.

This is where I downloaded the improved PowerPC library:
http://sun.hasenbraten.de/~frank/projects/

Quote:

5.System:Libs> list powerpc.library#?
powerpc.library 111252 ----rwed Today 16:01:08
powerpc.library_bak 111044 ----rwed Today 16:00:53
2 files - 437 blocks used

@arnljot

Work on the classic with 1260/50+AOS3.9bb2. SabreMSN isn't powerPC related (for classic). check the required third party software like MUI classes. disable the datatypes you have for checking.

I've isolated the crashes to WarpPNG datatype. I can't use the newest version, but with Frank Willes powerpc.library and a bit older WarpPNG datatype it works.

SabreMSN uses PNG datatype to load images.

Yes I have. I just thought that I'd update here that I'd determined the bug to be in WarpPNG so that it wouldn't stand on SabreMSN :)

Oliver has received an email from me.

SabreMSN works well now.

I'm confused, how are you guys running it on OS3.9 BB2 when there's only an OS4 version available? Unless those with PPC cards can run OS4 software? Didn't think that was possible.
