Hardware News   Hardware News : A-EON Rev 2 "Nemo" Update
   posted by ssolie on 21-Jul-2010 18:36:32 (8367 reads)
London, 20th July 2010

We are pleased to announce that we have finalised the design of the revision 2 "Nemo" motherboard. Following an extensive testing programme, as well as implementing a number of minor hardware fixes, we have opted to specify an upgrade to the "Xena" XMOS subsystem to provide greater functionality and performance.

The revision 2 standard will be the version shipping under the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Programme. With the design finalised, Hyperion Entertainment will soon be sending out the Beta Test information pack to everyone who registered their interest in joining the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test programme.

In other good news, the Hyperion Entertainment software developers have made excellent progress since the AmigaOne X1000's public debut at the Vintage Computer Festival in June, and AmigaOS4 is now running stably at the fastest CPU speeds. Two AmigaOne X1000 machines will be on display at the "Amiga Event 2010" in Essen on the 24th July, demonstrating the latest developments.

Great news (you may, however, want to consider using the proper spelling for the word program - English ain't German, you know).

@Petah:

Then again, you might want to consider checking your facts before posting -- English ain't American either, you know:

Well, my good sir - since you put it that way, please consider the following:

1: There are a lot more native speakers from the US than from Merry Ol' England.
2: You pronounce program just like you spell it.
3: Apart from German and French, just about every other European language there is - including Danish - uses the previously suggested/proper spelling scheme.
4: The word "program" is two (2) bytes shorter than the awkward looking alternative "programme". Hence, not only does it look more natural, but it is also conserves bandwidth.

All in all, logic dictates that "program" is a lot more favorable than any other made-up alternative.

Ohh, I thought that since A-Eon is a Brittish company it is logical to use Brittish English spelling.

But more importantly, great to read about the progress, looking forward to the show and future products.

Americans seem to ignore the fact that they are in a minority in the English-speaking world. There may be more of you than in the UK, but add Australia, New Zealand, parts of Asia and particularly India (whose official language is English) and your numbers don't rule the roost.

Don't forget Canada. Colour is the correct spelling... ahem.

@all
This is all rather off topic but I suppose until we get our own X1000 boards there isn't much more to talk about except nitpicking A-EON's press releases.

Picture of the new PCB, again, please.

btw. is the "we have opted to specify an upgrade to the "Xena" XMOS subsystem to provide greater functionality and performance"

Something more than just the already announced XMOS CPU clock speed upgrade?
4core xcore?
XS2 generation of xcore?
xcoreXS2 & on the PCIex1 bus?
Changed I/O / xcorelink wiring to CPU/SB600 ?
New/more I/O connections/options?
xorro PCIe kind of slot changed to some more geek friendly one?
...

btw. I think there's also a picture of the new board, kind of.

@Kimmok
I'm thinking the XMOS **subsystem** upgrade improves how it works with the rest of the system, such as faster connection to the CPU or the system's RAM, thus allowing more tasks to be usefully off-loaded onto it. Just my guess though, but I'm sure they'll tell us in time.

You obviously haven't worked daily for several years,as I once did,with ebonics speakers.

It's "muthaboard"

And in general your "news release" reads like that of an educated person attempting to appear uneducated;Sherlock Holmes would have spotted this at once.

Most of the longer words in your post would have a different spelling ,if an ebonics speaker even tried to use those words.One word sure to be used often isn't really suitable .........

I wanna ax' you whut dis has to do wit' compooters ?

Personally,I find the variations in spelling and pronunciation useful as clues to the origin,and also add a little variety to life.
It would be so boring if we all spoke and thought exactly alike.Or even all used the same computer!
