Events   Events : A message to all Amigans by an old friend
   posted by AmigaBlitter on 22-Oct-2010 11:07:02 (8027 reads)
Greetings, Amigans! The years I spent with the Amiga are among the most memorable of my life. There was the exhilaration of creating visual effects which had never been seen on a computer screen before. There was the luxury of realistic sound which was far beyond the clicks and beeps of previous computers. There was enough speed to allow fluid animation. But the strongest part of the Amiga experience was the community of users and developers who gravitated toward this remarkable device. Visionaries all, they were an exciting group to be a part of. While other computers were mere appliances, the Amiga fired the imaginations of its owners. I hope that the new generation of Amigans can carry on that tradition.

--- Jim Sachs

Jim would have liked to be attended to Amiwest, but he's extremely busy in building a house: which house? This picture should recall in mind old memories:

I will attach the actual picture of the under construction building later.

Jim also said:

"If any of the attendees will be traveling through the Pacific Northwest on
> their way to or from the conference, they are welcome to stop by and see my
> construction project. We are in Ashland, Oregon, right on Interstate 5.
> Just have them email me."

Thank you Jim for your Greetings. Hope to see you next year at Amiwest.

I always loved your artwork Jim. Defender of the Crow especially of course. I had never seen anything like it. I played it on C64 first and was amazed by computer magazines showing the Amiga version. Got to play that later too and spent lots of time just looking at the graphics.

Let me get this straight, the legendary Cinemaware artist is building a house identical to a design he made on Amiga years ago?

How cool is that??

The pictures you've seen are related to the old House in California. Now he's building a new house that recall the old fashiuned house of Amiga. I will upload an image of the building soon.

Yes, it's so nice.

@Manu
Defender of the Crown, I also spent hours playing it in my C64. Nice graphics, and seeing later the Amiga version was amazing :D

@Jim
hope you can soon enjoy fully finished house. It would be cool to be able to pass by and pay a visit.

Believe it or not I saw Defender of The Crown on an Atari ST the first time (my cousin got it before I bought my 2000).
Very impressive on that platform too, later on I got to enjoy the best version of it though (the ST version was missing the Robin scene, you would meet him but repeated graphics was shown instead, sound was also inferior).
Fond memories...

There can't be many Amiga users who haven't been exposed to his artwork in one way or another.

For anyone else who missed the March 2009 interview;

Wow, what a pleasant surprise!

Hello Jim! I love your work! You are one of a select few on this earth that really could bring out absolute magic in just 320x200 pixels. You should get back to making lowres computer artwork every now and then - you are just too talented not to :)

I wish you the best of luck with building your dream home!

Jim Sachs, you are a legend... bring so many memories back... the best years of my life were on the Amiga, playing great games and having great friends.

I wish I could have those days back again!

Defender of The Crown, and it's extraordinary graphics, made me go out and buy an Amiga without delay, and the journey began...

Q!

"i am home"

I never saw Defender of the Crow myself. Was this the prequel to Defender of the Crown? Altthough a Crow is alive, I think I'd much prefer Defending a Crown!

Hehehe.

Defender of the crown was the first game i saw on Amiga too. Compared to the cool c64 version i was amazed seeing the color cycling of the water and the fire.
