| I might be an outsider here, but as far as I'm concerned all the commercial games I was interested in, already workded like a charm since many versions ago... Not interested in anything else classic wise. _________________ SamFlex Complete 800Mhz System + AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 Amiga 2000 DKB 2MB ChipRam GVP G-Force040 Picasso 2 OS3.9 BB2 AmigaCD 32

They may appear to have worked, but each new release Toni makes the emulation more precise and accurate. There have been numerous enhancements to the quality of the emulation in the last few revisions as well as a new CPU core which was added a while back.
In some respects, Toni has the same attitude to WinUAE as the MAME devs do to MAME, it isn't about making it go faster, it is about the accuracy of the emulation - the goal being to make the A500 (OCS/ECS) side of things as perfect as can be. AGA additions and tweaks are far less important to him, and it is because of this that WinUAE is where it is right now. _________________ Test sig

| Here's my take on it:
I've been using WinUAE for about a year now. I initially copied the files from my very stable A4000 (CSPPC, CVPPC, etc) verbatim to a USB drive. The last version of WinUAE that was stable with the files straight off of my A4000 was 2.0.1. Anything later crashes much more frequently with the same hard drive.
I don't know how to provide an accurate bug report because the crashes with the newer version can happen with any task any time. There's no real underlying cause as far as Amiga software goes.
I appreciate the updates, and some of the new features, but the older version is as stable as my A4000, so I'll probably just continue to use it. _________________ Ideas on the Internet are like pictures of my family. Snap enough of them off and eventually one of them will be worth keeping.

| I hope we one day see (at least) better Linux (or Wine) support, otherwise I'll not get interested.

There at at best a few tens of thousands of us amiga guys left, and several hundred million Windows users. WinUAE is all about keeping the 68K Amiga scene alive, recognizing that the dominant platform out there is Windows. |

| I've experienced the same behavior on several different systems. The crashing is consistent but the cause isn't. There's something in my real Amiga set-up that newer WinUAE versions don't get along with. Last edited by Roj on 04-Mar-2011 at 07:25 AM.

| Very welcome news =)
@Kimmo
WinUAE works very well under wine (on Ubuntu) on my old laptop. You just need to obtain and install DX9-runtime dll's to start with (incase you havn't installed them allready).
Otherwise, we can hope that the future brings PUAE in par with WinUAE, but so far nothing comes close to it. Last edited by Develin on 04-Mar-2011 at 07:55 AM. Last edited by Develin on 04-Mar-2011 at 07:51 AM.

CPU libraries or some other funky hardware drivers which aren't required or need to be modified for use under UAE perhaps? A SCSI or IDE driver which does nasty things when the hardware isn't there? I'm sure you cleaned the installation out when you copied it across, but maybe you missed something? _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X

| As said many times, it would be a GREAT step and a significant incentive to purchase an NG system (for ex-Amiga users) to have a perfect classic emulation by default in AmigaOS 4.x _________________ A1200/020+68882 - 6 MB RAM - AmigaOS 3.0

| Unfortunately, the last for me useable version was WinUAE 2.1. All other successor don't work for me because some important keystrokes sent by WinUAE don't correspond to the keys I hit on this USB keyboard, example, my keyboard has a number sign key, the number sign (raw keycode 43 (0x2B)) should be sent when this key is hit, but unfortunately, the raw keycode 100 (0x64) (Alt left) is sent. Same happens for other non-standard keyboard keys. By the way, the number sign key is identified by WinUAE 2.3.1.0 as 'Backslash' (0x13). Such a key does not reside on this keyboard. In addition, the End key (0x71) isn't identified since years here. Next, 'Alt Gr' doesn't perform as it is intended, means I have to use 'Alt left' instead. I've tried several keymaps, created my own but it turned out that whatever I do, it will not succeed. So I again switched back to WinUAE 2.1. Either the keyboard matrix supplied by newer WinUAE versions to the Amiga side is broken for non english/american english keyboard layouts or the keymap.device on the Amiga side that I use is outdated (v40.1). |

| @_Steve_ I don't doubt that, but quite frankly I don't seem to grasp any difference while playing. The last time I bought into upgrades was at the first V2 release (or was it the first fix after it? can't remember) I was quite happy already but what the heck! After the upgrade...games did run just as before however (spectacularly well mind you).
I know there might have been quirks with some demos, and that as en exercise in total precision it's all nice and good (I also presume guys handling virtual environments on their PCs will benefit), but I'm only interested in commercial games, and they run superbly well with the version I have.
What I would like to see in the future is the guys at pixeljoint, to enbark in new pixel art based games, possibly on Natami, now that would be truly exciting. Last edited by DAX on 04-Mar-2011 at 01:32 PM. Last edited by DAX on 04-Mar-2011 at 01:30 PM.

| I cannot express often enough my admiration for the UAE and WinUAE developers (including the Atari people that wrote part of the 68k emulation code). I remember well the reaction in the community when Bernd (Schmidt) started to work on UAE. Fortunately, he always stayed out of the flame wars. Can you imagine that some people denied the existence (!) of the emulator even when version 0.3 was out? And some people still insisted on the non-"emulatability" of the classic Amiga hardware even when JIT was added (was it in v0.8.6?). The good thing with emulation/simulation is that time is on your side (in terms of progress in CPU development). Good, old times... Now, who wants to write a PPC emulator for OS4? |

| @dax: for what i know this release was mainly due to better aros68k support, which eventually leads to real hardware support under aros68k i hope. |
