Hardware News   Hardware News : Genesi release Efika MX Linux netbook
   posted by -Sam- on 16-Mar-2011 13:40:28 (8401 reads)
I know it's not anything to do with the Amiga directly but Genesi and the Efika brand name may interest some people here.

It'a £105 netbook based on the Cortex A8 CPU with a 3D GPU of unknown type. It runs Linux and at £105 it is a very low cost netbook.

Obviously, this isn't AmigaOS-related in any way. Whoever approves low-quality material like this should check in with the site management first.

Posts like this one isn't why I registered a user account on AmigaWorld.net in the first place.

@Petah

That would have been me who approved this news, and feel free to complain to site management if you want to.

It is getting AROS port at the moment, so nothing wrong with including it in news here.

Genesi were heavily involved in the Amiga community in the past and they also host the AROS bounty page on power2people.org. I'm sure that AROS will run on Efika MX in the future.

Does it run OS4? No? Then it's NOT NEWS FOR AN AMIGA WEBSITE!

@zerohero
Whats the point, I'll only get a ban again. (like someone else just did)

Hey, what's the problem? Perhaps it doesn't run OS4 at the moment, but if it is likely to run AROS, then it'll please the open-source fans.

As long as it has relevance to at least one of the clones, it has a place on aw.net.

Perhaps, but what next? News on the latest Dell PC's!? (It's okay though, because it can run AROS!)

Well Genesi is a part of Amiga history so I guess the news item is ok.
Wish we had such HW for AmigaOS.

Did Dell contributed to anything related to Amiga? You may check a computer called Pegasos, it's pretty popular among OS4 users. Guess who developed it? You can always read news on pure-OS4 sites like amigans.net, there's no Evil Buck News there.

That's so unhygienic! I mean, putting stuff in other people mouths, unless that's in privacy of your bedroom. So why are you exactly against posting this news? Genesi contributed to MorphOS, AROS and by proxy, to AmigaOS. "Does it run OS4" is not a prerequirement to be featured on AW.net, not anymore.

It's my fault - I apologise if I have offended anyone.

You're right - perhaps it is too generic for me to have suggested it - but I genuinely thought it would be of some interest to some people here.

I think you had a go at one of my news items before - about the expensive Mac - not sure if you remember - and I understand why.

Look - when I post these things as news for AmigaWorld - I do it purely as a point of interest. Yes - they are a bit generic - but I just do it as I believe they may be of interest to some people here as I personally found them interesting at the time. I just thought I would share them with you.

So - apologies to those that find my odd news items totally unrelated to the once proud platform of our choice - there is always some link back to the Amiga - usually

£105 would be a good price, however I think $199 is more like £125. Was lucky to get my end of line aspire one a150 a couple of years ago for £130.
