Software News   Software News : IBrowse Flash Plugin v1.61 released
   posted by Moxee on 22-Mar-2011 0:34:34 (4778 reads)
I hope I am not repeating old news, but I don't find this in the message base.

On 26 February 2011 Mike Steed released an update to his IBrowse flash plugin on Aminet. This is an interim release that fixes a bug that could cause the plugin (and subsequently IBrowse) to crash randomly when loading flash files on AmigaOS 4.x.

Read more...

New for version 1.61:
---------------------

- This is an interim release that fixes a bug that caused the plugin to
crash when loading a small number of flash files under OS4. There was
no problem under OS3.

- The plugin was compiled with optimization enabled, after it was
inadvertently left off for version 1.6.

- There is no corresponding version of the standalone FlashPlayer, as it
has neither of these problems.

@number6

I've been called "late-for-lunch" about news before, so I was keeping my fingers crossed on this one.

Heh. No. It was we who were looking at this that were late to lunch.
We were using the PPC version because it seemed the right thing to do.
But, as I posted in the thread:

What Amiga browsers support shockwave and/or flash?

it turns out that "newer but 68k" excels over the OS4 native (older) version.

Good news. Thanks.

I wonder if this is why IBrowse always crashes for my dad. Well maybe not.

But all I need now is a CSS plugin and I'll be happy!

If he was using OS4, then it is very possible.
Depending on the installation, there were several instances of seeing a GR, which could be bypassed, but also instances where the entire machine would freeze. Nasty bug this was...

Few of those who daily browse Aminet perhaps. I don't and I missed it and was glad it was posted here

Edit: Damn it, misinterpreted the sentence... First I though you implied it is normal for all Amigans to constantly surf Aminet. Oh well

ok.
Then keep a watch on What Amiga browsers support shockwave and/or flash?

The new plugin looks good so far and I've posted a link which has a lot of demos you can check.

If you find any other good flash sample links that work with the new plugin, just drop them in that thread.

Is something wrong with Aminet today? I tried to download the player using the link above and get the message:

=============================================
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /php5/php5.cgi/package.php/gfx/show/FlashPlayerPlugin on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
=============================================

In fact I get a similar message when trying to access /anything/ on Aminet.

I tried using both IB and OWB.

I see the same thing here.

@Hypex

This update correct a DSI problem with some particular flash movies files.

The crash happened during the loading of a page, with flash movies inside (with this plugin enabled, of course) or some seconds after the end of the loading of the internet page.

If your dad crashe allways his Ibrowse, he should check if javascript.library 020 version is used.

Yes, it must have been a glitch with Aminet itself.

No problems now.

@thread

Since it is impossible for me to determine who downloaded what and at what time, please perform a version check of your "npflashplayer.library"
It should read:
FlashPlayer Plugin 1.61 (02/25/2011)

If it does not, please download again or you will have nothing but trouble with IBrowse.
