How do we know this isn't just a press release (hot air)? _________________ A1200, 68060/64MB/1.2GB/WiFi/AGAtoCRT/OS3.9 Pegasos I, G3 600Mhz/512/9200SE/80GB WinUAE, Ryzen 5 2400G/Vega11, 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD,Win 10 Pro x64 Amiga Forever !

Because Varisys is a h/w company, they use linux for testing. They don't have a clue about OS4. Besides, why would Hyperion give OS4 away?
The bds were sent to Hyperion to verify OS4 installed & ran after Varisys verified the h/w. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

What evidence would that be?
Lets face it, for those who never see/own an x1000, it will always be vapor. _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid...

| Its not true! Trevor is bankrupt! He was seen bareknuckle fighting with Ben Hermans! A-Eon never give progress updates! The X1000 is actually a spectrum! Waah waah waah waah!

They already ported Linux and know HW better than anyone else.

That is what documentation is for. Obviously it has to be written but longer A-eon waits smaller their profit margin will be.
Varisys guys know the HW so I was just wondering. Making new HW is not cheap.

Err? It does not mean subcontractor would ever have any rights to OS4 source code.Last edited by itix on 08-Jun-2011 at 06:52 AM.

The very obvious fact: They don't know the OS4 code and therefore it would take them at least 3 times longer to do it than for Hyperion who knows the code inside-out by now. _________________ - Don't get fooled by my avatar, I'm not like that (anymore, mostly... maybe only sometimes) > Amiga Classic and OS4 developer for OnyxSoft.

The AmigaOS4 developers have also been busy porting the latest version of AmigaOS4.1.x |
Should there really be more than a day of work to do this? I mean OS4 was already demonstrated on an X1000 beta board last year..?
Edit: Oh, and Good News! Hope it won't be another eternity until we, the public, can buy it now... My A1-XE starts to feel slow.Last edited by Deniil715 on 08-Jun-2011 at 09:23 AM.

given that there was no news about os4 on this hw since a year it makes me wonder... Quote:

I doubt. Because there is HAL you dont have to know the code inside out. It is not an embedded project where SW is tightly integrated for one target platform...
Whatever, it is an academic discussion anyway... some companies prefer outsource everything, some companies nothing. _________________ Amiga Developer Amiga 500, Efika, Mac Mini and PowerBook

So is mine. Even for simple things. Some people say you don't need fast hardware for AmigaOS but today that's not true anymore because we make use of other software technology that's slow and needs a hefty CPU.
For example. Reading a PDF. I downloaded a simple B&W manual for a router. OS4 takes ages to render a page. At least a second. Am I using my A1200/030 with APDF? No.
Web browsing. Apart from flash (which may make it better speedwise) simple browsing takes a lot of CPU power now days wih scripts and fancy gfx everywhere. That needs power.
Emailing. Not much more then text editing really. But YAM is dog slow now. I enter a name or address and YAM thinks about it for a few seconds before guessing. Of course this is YAM storing more data as time goes on. The old problem that affected Windows is now affecting us. Of course if YAM only recorded who I emailed and not the spam I get it would be faster but that's another story.
My point is, unfortuately, we need a Ghz powerful computer these days just to do the simple things. Last edited by Hypex on 08-Jun-2011 at 02:48 PM.
