I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Petunia was released with AmigaOS 4.0 pre-release Update 4 (February 2006), so it is now 5 years old. I didn´t use diapers at that age.

as I asked here: would it be difficult to port the last UAE version to PowerPC?

10 years but Petunia needs a good update!
Because we need the old 68k software for much things! Too much.

I thought it works for most OS friendly applications?

@pavlor:

It does, and it does very well. There are very few of the most-used 68k applications that need the interpreter-fallback of Petunia. Most 68k applications work fine with Petunia.

Failing 68k applications often suffer from bad programming practice, so they collide with some restrictions that OS4 enforced, like correct memory allocation/deallocation and pointer handling. Oh yes, and hardware banging is a problem, too.

I dont think that Petunia needs an update. E-UAE update with a PPC JIT is the better way for old software that doesnt work with OS4.x.

No with all, someones crashed the system or freeze in the Amiga desktop.
For the games the better election is the emulation.

You are mixing up two different things. Petunia has been finished (and working quite well) for years - what is in diapers is E-UAE with JIT enabled.

The issue is the JIT engine itself really - the JIT engine in the latest WinUAE is written specifically for x86, and would mostly have to be rewritten for PPC.

@Templario
What crashes the apps is OCS/AGA dependencies most of the time, thus the need for RunInUae seamless integration.
In the future we'll get a "Jit enabled UAE" powered RunInUae

Unless I misinterpreted you completely that's just a stupid comment! Care to elaborate, please.

Petunia is certainly not in diapers and have worked more or less perfectly for AmigaOS4 users worldwide for many years.

@thinkchip

It's clear who still haven't upgraded to OS4 but still live with false beliefs that OS4 is just OS3 on PPC
