| Yeah. 1. I can use AROS + everything i need for daily tasks. 2. ARM Platform get's an faster alternative to Ubuntu. 3. AROS Developer will get a better place to work and test : ) 4. AROS can be used on more HW with full 3D and much faster drivers. 5. AMC can control the HW (sleep, poweroff, poweron scheduled and so on and more.. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! | All I can say is that Broadway way a nice Distro while it lasted.
I have no use for another Linix distro, but I can see it being useful to developers how don't have a computer that can run virtualbox, or need to cross compile binaries.
Back to running AROS nightly build for me I guess as Linux on my AROS netbook is even slower than Windows 7, thats why I run Windows XP Pro and AROS on it in the first place. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar

| I am sure AEROS is also on your HW faster. There is no overhead from Linux. And there is no sluggish Linux desktop running. It take a few seconds longer to boot as a native AROS but as soon it is up it flies. The WindowManager i use is running on a 486... so i don't know which Netbook you are using ; )
I would say my Snow Leopards feels fast but AEROS is faster. Well just wait and see. You can try it from USB later. Gimp takes longer to start and Blender too while my mac should be faster. 2.8GHZ Sempron vs. 2.53GHZ core2duo. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! | Interesting project!
However, I never liked Broadway desktop theme. I prefer something with design more like AspireOS. |

| A theme and a icon-set is by far the easiest thing to change. Well some like it some not. I am not here to stay in competition with Paolo or Nikolaos. Everything has a pro and con. One is a bit more stable, one is more retro, one is more modern, one is more mac. One aims for everyone, one for Aspire, one for AresOne. And so on.
In short: Everyone can find his "AROS" he likes the most. : )
Next native Broadway will be smaller again thanks to EMULA.
AEROS wil compete with Linux/Os X/Windows not AROS. I think the guys from Linux action show will like it. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO! Appstore - AmiWallet - VAN lossless video codec - AMC Amiga media Center -KrypUnite - LibertyNet - MinX - amigaNX

| It comes with AmigaOS 3.x compatibility. So what?
EDIT: Would you be so kind to tell me what is the benefit to have you as part of an(y) community?
Constructive critics? -no Beta-testing something? -no Motivating others? - no And i am not talking about AROS here. Last edited by phoenixkonsole on 02-Oct-2011 at 09:04 AM.

I must strongly disagree with your opinion. It is realy nice idea - Linux distribution with hosted AROS as its desktop enviroment. Sure, it is not enough "Amiga" for you or me, but I will try it for sure. |

| @phoenixkonsole I will be quite happy if proven wrong about the speed issue.
I can see how haveing a pre-setup AROS Linux version can be very useful to developers I am just not sure if fits with how I use AROS at pressent. _________________ Sam440ep 667mhz, 512MB, 120GB 2.5" HD, OS4.1FE WinUae 3.0.0, OS 3.9, BB3, Catweasel MkIV Amiga 1200, Blizzard 040/40 (BlizzardPPC 060/200 with SCSI removed at present), mediatorSX pci, Voodoo3, PCI network card os 3.9BB2 4MB Minimig with ARM addon boar

So i guess we have another OS4.x fanboy. |

He is probably fanboy, but I fuly agree with his signature. Do you think there is other OS than OS4 that can claim it is continuation of Amiga OS? |

Officially it might not be, but this guy based on comments dosent think this should have even been posted on amigaworld.
Personally i don't care about name and all the amiga clones are true to the original OS imo.
And i must say this one looks very interesting as well if they managed to keep it responsive even when running on top of linux.Last edited by Tomas on 03-Oct-2011 at 12:02 AM.

| I don't get it. Is it AROS/Linux dual boot, AROS hosted on Linux as a VM or what?

| It is a minimal Linux without Desktopenvironment like KDE or Gnome.. Those two are too slow and have too much latency for my taste. Especially on slow system like ARM below 1GHZ.
Also we save a lot of physical RAM if we kick them.
Instead of those "normal" Linux-desktop-environments AEROS launches straight AROS (hosted).
So a normal user would not recognize that AROS is running as kind of app on top of Linux. But in fact it does.
AROS hosted can read the same filesystems as the underlaying linux. You can run you AROS apps like on native AROS but also you can run Linux-stuff if you need.
I am now trying to use the LInux trashcan inside of AROS. So that deleted files will be added to LInux trashcan and can be recovered if needed.
Thanks to this bounty we will be able to use 3D acceleration provided by Linuxdrivers. OpenGL wrapper Bounty
I am using for example official Nvidia drivers. Trust me nvidia knows there card ; )
You could compare AEROS too OS X.... a bit at least : p A skin which hides the underlaying system and running on top of a "unix".
I have now more time for AROS : D because i can do everything i need while running it.
Another reason to make this move is that we can experiment with other stuff like 64bit at the same time. And further with Coreboot and emulation. _________________ AROS Broadway - AEROS - Aminux - AmiCloud - indieGO!
