Now they are nice! Bright, airy and modern (IMHO of course!)

Just look at SnoopDOS.

SnoopDOS is a very useful AmigaOS utility but its appearance on classic AmigaOS made the software feel to be very old. Now with anti-aliased fonts, new style interface and new gradient buttons (not shown in the screenshot... Guess you would have to go a Tour event yourself!) gives the software quite an impressive facelift IMO!

Is this closer to the end default appearance? I am surprised no one else has mentioned it... these shots are much, much, much, much, much, much nicer than the first ones shown! I love the shadow cast by the titlebar and the nasty brushed metal texture has been replaced with an eye-friendly pearly-grey.

@ jumpship

I would not know any reason why this shouls be problem. The new menu customization abilities were also demonstrated in Switzerland.

I have a question - will the 'bar' on the left side of the window actually do anything this time round? I never liked it much as it looks too much like a gadget but was just a graphic taking up space...

I always had that bar turned OFF as its much to wide.

This looks friggin' awesome.

I will use this to control my "time machine" so I can bring back all the big "developers" for this "computer".

If anyone objects I'll use my "laser beam" to stop them for good.

@soft:
Yes, when I first looked at them I thought "man, this stuff grows on you", but now that you mention it, this lot *does* look a lot better than the first batch of screenshots. The font in particular is nice and clean. I see that tooltips are also implemented, that's something that was missing.

@Mike: do you know if the icon set in the screenshots is the "final" version?

It always did do something It was a throwback to the old 1.3 days where the volume usage was shown on the left of the window as a petrol guage "E - F"

The guage was re-introduced in WB3.5 iirc (perhaps 3.9) but it is only of use on an actual volume window, since that is the only one that it works on. Although the other windows displayed it, it just took up screen "real estate" on those.

As for the new shots, they are looking nicer, a new colour scheme can change the appearance quite a bit. New icons would be nice though I think, as the current ones dont seem to fit in any longer

Absolutely great! I love the way that the look of OS4 is shaping up. This is, without a doubt, the best looking screen shots so far. The only thing they could improve on now is the icon system. Even if they just anti-alias the existing one's they would look much better.

Edit: Good to see they have listened to the end users and brought in some of the suggestions.

Very nice screenshots.

Although I always knew we could make adjustments to colour and background patterns, it is good to see screenshots without the dark smeary brushed metal look.

I like that date at the bottom ot the DOPUS window ... 01 Jan 78 ... January 1, 1978

Yep, the look of OS4 is really shaping up well now . Out of curiosity, was the Notepad program ever included in previous versions of AmigaOS? I seem to remember something in 1.3, I know it wasn't in 3.0, but I'm not sure about the rest.

You mean apart from visually showing the amount of free/used space available on the drive, right? I believe that's at least already *something*. I don't know of additional features though as at last week's Tour event we did not talk about this at all.

As I personally do like the bar, I'm very happy with the fact that lots of features are available fully optional.

@ CodeSmith

I believe Mason would be a better person to ask this question. However don't expect something radically different for AmigaOS4.
