Software News   Software News : A sign of life: InsanePlaya
   posted by Insane-Software on 20-Nov-2011 3:38:32 (6044 reads)
Hello Amigans!

We like to inform you that we just uploaded InsanePlaya to os4depot. Its a CD player with GUI and AHI output. Its free of charge, and free for non-commercial use.

Its GUI is somewhat simple, but complex enough to make up a useable CD player program

The plan is to use its code base for a much more complex version, featuring external GUI modules and maybe more, so that even the most serious designer could make a wonderful GUI.

As we need some more experience with its usage, we decided to give it away for free, so that AmigaOS users could test it and tell us their opinion and/or suggestions.

Have fun with InsanePlaya!

Wolfgang Hosemann

P.S.: If there should be any problem with the os4depot special license, please contact us via email.

NIce.......................

I assume when you say your updating your website, that you were also meaning the program will be visible and downloadable also from your website and not just os4depot?

Cheers

@swoop:

Hm, not really... I (Wolfgang) have no clue about the cause of your lockups. We have another user with a similar problem, that is, InsanePlaya stops playback if a screenblanker is active on his machine.

Well, *taking a very deep look into the code* this should not happen. Hehe, yes, I know, lame excuse All I can do atm. is investigate further with the user having these screenblanker problems. Maybe we find the cause, but I dont think that its InsanePlayas fault (or, at least not alone InsanePlayas fault). Theres something going wrong regarding screens/windows...

@sicky:

At least one snapshot made it to the public. Its the one showing InsanePlaya while doing playback.

Yes, we (Niels and me, Wolfgang) hope that the site is fully up again in short term. Were very sorry for this![/quote]

No worries, I have downloaded and it works good on my SAM460, thanks for your efforts, much appreciated

Nice little program. But just out of interest, how long did it take to write it for OS4?

Using the codebase I had already, around 1 day to have a working version without special functions.

I would say, around 40 hours. Including learning about SCSI3 commands and device handling (special functions like diskchange interrups and such).

The salted version would need a bit more, as I dont have experience using AmigaOS Library code as external program modules yet (learning needs time ), and theres a lot of gfx work to do. No clue yet, how much more.

Email is not working on my A1, but I have an Eyetech A1XE-G3 800 [IBM 750FX PowerPC Processor], running OS4.1 upd3, using onboard sound.

My audio related items are:-
AHI-Device version 6.6
AHI Handler version 6.2
via-ac97.audio version 5.9
Audiomodes/VIA-AC97 668k dated Sat 17th jan 2004 (no version string)

As for graphics card I am running on a Radeon9250.

@swoop:

Is it possible for you to use a different sound card with your A1? Something known as stable, like the CMI 8738? Or some other, as long as its no VIA AC97 chipset?

I believe its the VIA AC97 driver that makes trouble here (cannot say definetly, because we wont get a crashlog in your case ). None of our testers use the VIA AC97, and for all of these people InsanePlaya is working fine, even when reading text using MultiView and dragging MultiViews window (position and size).

A small update:

We uploaded version 53.3 to os4depot.net a few minutes before. It features display of the current title within the Listbrowser and iconify. Additionally, Thomas Blatt (tommysammy) donated some icons for the drawer and the program. They look nice

This version wont help against certain stability issues yet (for at least one issue this is most likely impossible), but we actually know some "hot spots" within the code that could potentially make trouble. One is fixed already, others will be fixed in a later version, and we might implement some other suggestions from users, too.

Have fun with InsanePlaya 53.3!

Very nice thanks for the update
Only a little thing, VERSION command and the title of the window is referring to 53.2 instead so should be fixed to avoid confusion when we test

@samo79:

Well spotted... dang, it escaped me. The bumprev didnt work (for whatever reason). I just uploaded the correct archive, its actually called 53.31, as there is a 53.3 already in the upload queue. I left a comment, so when it arrives in the recent directory, all should be fine.

Thanks for the info!

A status report:

It seems that we found the cause for the Multiview-related lockups. We have contact with somebody using InsanePlaya on a classic machine, who had the same problems. For him its cured now. We try to get in contact with swoop.

Regards

Wolfgang
