hardware OS4   hardware OS4 : SAM460Lite & AmigaOS4.1 for DjNick bounty
   posted by kas1e on 6-Jan-2012 11:22:26 (18138 reads)
Most of DjNick's music and graphics was done on Amiga back in the days, and now, he want to help AmigaOS4 to get some better design by making improved skins, icons and graphics. But its pretty hard to be working effectively on gfx design of OS and OS components, when you don't own the actual machine. So, this bountys aim is to get Nikola a sam460EX Lite motherboard & AmigaOS4.1 licence. The Sam460 is EUR 610,- excl. shipping and vat. So we should end at around EUR 850,- which is what we are trying to collect.

Do you remember the days when Amiga was popular because of our skilled artists, who contributed stunning tunes and graphics for amiga games, demos and apps? Sure you remember those days. Many of us was attracted to Amiga because of that.

One of the old-known graphic artist and musicians is DjNick (Nikola Tomic, from Serbia). He contributed for Amiga community back in the past with f.ex. non-commercial music video for a goa-trance song with the name "Warp", which features 3D animations made in LightWave. You can check that video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD_AltKxwwo
DjNick also Composed music and sound effects for Amiga game "Capital Punishment" for Canadian Publishers "ClickBoom". It was the top Seller "beat’em-up" game in 1996, with music and SFX scores as high as 97% in some computer magazines.

Some recent work of DjNick can be seen on the freshly done AmigaOS4 site http://amigaos.net, which was done to help Hyperion to have a good looking and professional site. Just check all the links below, where you can find most of DjNick's work (music, graphics etc.).

http://www.djnick.rs
http://djnick2k.deviantart.com/gallery
http://www.behance.net/djnick
http://www.coroflot.com/djnick
http://www.youtube.com/djnykk
http://www.graphicriver.net/user/djnick/portfolio?ref=djnick

The work Nikola will do as compensation for the motherboard+OS is outlined belov. Keep in mind that this will be not be official work managed by Hyperion, but 3rd party contributions from a skilled graphic artist.

1. New AOS4 themes (At least one new stylish theme).

2. New Frames for MUI (version of MUI, which will be released in AmigaOS4.2). Those frames can also be used on Morphos's MUI4, so MOS-users can contribute as well;)

3. New MUI themes (At least one new stylish theme). As we soon will have an updated MUI(4?), themes can also be used for MorphOS MUI4 as well.

4. New AOS4 backdrops (1, 2 or more).

5. New AOS4 icons for different kind of projects/games/demos/mags/apps (1, 2 or more, depends).

6. Workbench loading audio samples with female voice.

7. AmigaOS video presentations and animations on Youtube with examples what Amiga can do today.

Understand that this is the minimum work that will be done as compensation for the bounty, much more will hopefully come in the future.

With this bounty we can attract a good designer that loves Amiga computers and it's OS, please make a donation today.

Well imagine ambiental sound at the background during system startup when you hear cyber-space-futuristik-robotized-a-bit female voice (in Alien Breed game style) speaking "Welcome to Amiga System". This kind of sound samples ;) and similar startup sounds and effects.

Is there any new or special Idea in this?

I mean - anyone can make some new templates or styles.

The point is: Is there a special, new GUI-Concept?

OS4 better looking than OS X or Win 7... how?

Before I will donate any money, I want to know what's the concept or the idea behind the new style.

Sure. You see how looks Win7 now? Or MOS? Or iOS? Now imagine Amiga skin that will be on that skin level with cool backgrounds, good or better icons and better colors.

Everything has to be visible. For example, I very often use Opera browser on PC even it does not work 100% perfect. I downloaded the most popular and most beautiful skin from Opera Skins website. After installing I see several problems - not everything is visible on the screen, tabs are barely noticeable because there is no good contrast and all in all - even this Opera skin might be the best ever, it needs some polishing... But seems nobody cares and we use deafult skins or are forced to use "the most popular skin" just because there is no better...

I would like to make Amiga skins not just copy/paste from PC but also some improvements in better contrast, style, useability by installing smaller tools and programs that will make use of new Amiga much better experience as it used to be ever. Anyway you will see and comment when I create something.

Thank your for the immediate answer. You are very clear. That's good.

To donate something I need just 1 more thing:

Just tell me, what point should be the "special" thing in your design?

Some call it the USP - I mean, Apple or MS will have some very good designers...

What will be the Unique Thing your GUI-Design will have?

It will be on the same level as Mainstream platforms, professional looking + my idea is to preconfigure OS with all available tools / programs for Amiga so new users will have everything in one place - it will be - simplicity to use and very powerful and fast system.

If Amiga stops looking as a toy from 90s, Amiga world could attract more serious players and companies. It would also mean that I might try to create improved versions of Amiga x1000 web site(s) - like for example - aEon etc. Current gfx does not look promising and serious enough to attract possible new Amiga users from other places...

As long as making it look like OSX or Win7 doesn't slow the whole OS down.

And are we sure that we won't lose the OS4 feeling and identity?

I don't really want something just because others are doing it.

I'd prefer something practical that sets the OS apart from others. Like booting in 1 second with a nice picture

We at 500 now, 350 left

@TheDaddy
Plz, not that old-the-same-song about how uniq amigaos4. Making good desing, does not mean it will be copy paste.

Did you all check DjNick's sites ? Did you all see what kind of work he can do ? Did you all understand, that its not "copy" of "somthing ", with "loosing of uniq design" ? That all about making good design, for you all, to have you pleased. Not need to fear that someone, somethere will copy something .. blah .. its just really strange to hear that.

Bounty idea: to attract one mode designer to aos4 platform. Does not matter at all what in the description of bounty ! The matter, is that he will have aos4 system, and will do his design work for os4 ! That what important.

Yes, we are. There is nothing like "loose identity" when you simply have more than one designer who can do professional stuff. You all want stuck with all that sites on html, porno-games on hollywood and pdf mags with top-ten-os4depot-uploads, or you want to have some good #### ?

Booting for 1 second, its up to hyperion. DjNikk are gfx/musican.

If you will check his sites, you will see what kind of stuff he do, and you will then know what you can expect from him.

But as stated in the readme, its not hyperion worker. Its just single man, who can do good graphics, and who will do it for os4, when he will have a machine for it. Sure, if you do not want to have djnikk's kind of work, then that kind of bounty not for you of course.
