- ARexx port with 22 fully documented commands.

Already tested.

That is really, really quality stuff. After all that hollywood based prods, sdl/unix ports (while i for myself do it) - its like a fresh air. Fast native mui gui, no crashes or problems. Just works as all those old good and proffesional 68k programms on os3 from the past.

I remember something about a realtime 303 emulator. I guess it will never get implemented?

@AmiKit

Are the DigiBooster 1.x modules supported too?

Not yet. They are planned , as well as plain MODs and XM modules. Note however, that compatibility cannot be full, because of different (and sometimes conflicting) sets of effects.

DigiBooster 3 will have plugin API. Then such emulator is possible. Not a top priority for now however.

@g_kraszewski

this is terrific stuff.

you can expect at least one paying customer when the final version is released. this may very well become my favorite modern amiga tool, tied with digital universe, at the top of my list of native OS4 software.

quality software like this is something all the amiga NG platforms need and appreciate greatly.

@realize

What advantages over octamed ss does digit have

I think the main advantage is that DigiBooster 3 is (and will be) actively developed. Also being PowerPC native is good, as the program can be faster. Another difference is that DB3, in spite of being "younger" is more traditional when we look at GUI. There are no 10 different windows and it resembles old good ProTracker. Effect set is more compatible with PT too. When we are at effects, DB3 allows for two effects for one note. DB3 also supports more channels, but it is not so important, as even Octamed's 64 are usually more than enough.

Of course more features are planned, which will give DB3 even more advantages, but talking about them now would be unfair, as plans are not what enduser can really use .

Also how is midi support on os 4?

And here we are in area, where Octamed is still superior. MIDI support is not yet available in DB3. It is because the most important thing is to have stable and complete set of features for a sample based tracker. A few things are still missing in this set: famous DSP echo, envelope editor and mixing features. When it is done, extra features may be added, MIDI support is one of them.

@g_kraszewski

Two effects for one note? Sounds interesting. Are there any special effects compared to PT for example?

What is the time plan? When can we expect the final version?

Thank you and good luck!

@AmiKit

Are there any special effects compared to PT for example?

Smooth volume slides and portamentos for example. They have been improved compared to DigiBooster Pro 2.21. Now these effects (such as AFx, AxF) can do fractional volumes on the traditional 0 - 64 scale. All portamento effects have been aligned to the music scale, portamento unit is now just 1/8 of a semitone. For musicans it means that all portamento (pitch slide) effects may be transposed freely. Another useful effect is master volume and master volume slide. There are also DSP echo effects, but they are not yet implemented. I have plans for even more commands (tunable filters for example), but let's implement DigiBooster Pro 2.x set first.

What is also important - all these effects are extensively described in the User's Manual (included in current beta). These descriptions are much more verbose than in DigiBooster Pro 2. Also some chapters for general understanding of tracker engine are included.

What is the time plan?

3.0 release this year. I know, not very precise, but I do not work on DigiBooster 3 fulltime. As most of Amiga related activities nowadays, it is partially still a hobby in spite of commercial aspirations . Release date also depends on feature set desired in the first full release. Personally I consider program stability as the most important thing, even if it comes at a cost of narrower feature set. Fortunately I've got no crash report of beta 22 so far, so it seems to be quite stable. I guess the development model will be to release base, stable 3.0 version, then some number of free upgrades. Definitely most important things still missing are: DSP echo, envelope editor and a kind of mixer panel for instruments. They will be added first, then publisher will decide what else must be done for the full 3.0.

@g_kraszewski

Talking about midi, will it be made to use midi out ? That way i could for example control my hardware synthesizer with digibooster. To make it easier for you we could use to send controll messages and typing in the values like for audio. Just to open my manual and see what value to type in. Or something like that.

Ofcourse for the user it would be easier to use midi in too, doesnt need to make digibooster put in all values while doing automation but at least to see what a knob has as control message value. that way we wouldnt need to check in our synthesizer documentation. I think Fruity loops on PC uses a funktion like this. First move a knob, then do the editing manually. But as said i would be happy with midi out only too.

Just some ideas. I would for sure make music much more then now if i went on to digibooster. I used on classic a hardcoded app called tracks & fields. It had only midi out, no audio support. Too limited but man i loved to make music with trackers.

@Kicko

Talking about midi, will it be made to use midi out?

Yes. For now my idea is that it will be track based. It means a track may be assigned to some MIDI channel and all notes and commands on this track will be sent to MIDI. Plain MIDI message may be easily fitted in one pattern entry. I guess note may be directly mapped to MIDI key number, other parameters may be specified as effects. It may be eased with using context menus for quick help.

Said that I have to note that MIDI support may not make it into 3.0 but rather 3.x version. Time will tell.

@g_kraszewski

It doesnt matter if midi out will not come with 3.0, im fine with 3.x. Just hearing you say "yes". My best times were when i tracked :) When the time comes if you need a betatester and ideas you know who you can contact.

@Menthos

No, because the player code is not yet finished (echo commands are being implemented). When echo is ready, a library will be made.
