Hardware News   Hardware News : New FastATA controllers released today
posted by Moxee on 28-Feb-2012 1:49:07 (6450 reads)
New FastATA controllers released today.
Krakow 27 Feb 2012

New FastATA controllers are equipped with a Compact Flash
slot and a SATA controller based on the Marvell 88SA8040
SATA-to-PATA bridge.

The new controllers are designed to simultaneously
use up to four devices: one Compact Flash card,
one SATA drive and two to four PATA devices.

The number of simultaneously used Compact Flash
cards or SATA drives may be increased with additional
adapters up to the total number of all connected
devices of four.

If four SATA/CF/ATA/ATAPI devices is not enough
for you, you can install more than one FastATA 4000
MK-VI CF/SATA controller in your A3000 or A4000 computer.
If you have A1200 with ZIV busboard you can
simultaneously use FastATA ZIV CF/SATA and
FastATA A1200 MK-IV CF/SATA controllers.

New software (ATA3.driver 11.0, FastATA4000 ver. 4.0)
enclosed with the new controllers is optimized for best
compatibility with Compact Flash cards and SATA drives.
CF cards controlled by a FastATA controller are seen
in the Amiga system as a fixed (non-removable) device,
which facilitates installation of bootable partitions
on them.

You can order your new controller for your Amiga
just now at http://eu-shop.elbox.com/cgibin/shop?show=4FA

Best regards,

Elbox Computer Team

So these differ from the batch that AmigaKit.co.uk had two runs on.

@ Comi:

What do you mean about "crap Spider drivers?" I use the Elbox Spider drivers on my A4000 to run a PCI USB card and it works perfectly. I have it running with a Deneb card.

Plus, there's nothing wrong with "yes another FastATA". I have one in my A4000 and one in an A1200 tower. I have draws full of IDE hard drives.

Any chance of a picture of the new board? The one on your website looks exactly the same as my FastATA4000 mk5.

PS. A solution for Zorro II Amigas would be nice. As the Bhudda is not available, I'm sure there are some A2000 owners who wouldn't mind a version of this board even if it won't provide the same performance.

thank you verymuch for including a SATA interface chip. One thing I would like to ask though, you have the usual limit of 2 controllers, giving 4 channels. Is this mainly because AOS has never used all three ID0, ID1, ID2 lines to allow the full IDE/PATA standard 8 device access? Or is this covered under the dual use of expansion card method?

Or is the device number near unlimited under AOS due to the use of induvidual named handlers for each expansion card, plus SCSI function LUN equivalent device per card numbering?

My dear Comi,

While its sad that they will not develop 68k accelerator (Dragon) and PPC card for 68k (Shark) its good they make any kind of expansion for Classics these days

Did Elbox move? What happened to their 100% genuine corporate sign?

Try walking around to the front of the building instead of looking at the back.

Glad to see its gone.... but I told them to remove banners from site not from bulding.....and now banners from site..:)
@Vox
There no need for that kind of expansion and company at all. Elbox making revisions of hardware last 10 years with continuous promises about Shark PPC and Dragon Coldfire

@comi

why slay Elbox when they actually produce something?
FastATA is a nice controller, its expensive yes but thats how it is in AMIGALAND.

as for Dragon and SharkPPC , i really wanted them to come to fruition and i held a SharkPPC which they claimed was working too, pure lies, its now over 10 years ago and i moved on, i think you need to do the same.

False Marketing? , its not false when it says its in development, you know.. that can mean Development hell and that my friend is a very common thing in the world of IT/hardware and software.

If the dragon or sharkppc had arrived the last 10 years then i would have bought it, but i will not do that now when i have seen what the FPGA AGA and Natami can do.

Keep in mind that the sharkppc is just a rebranded PCI Crescendo card or whatever its called, the problem is that there is no OS/drivers for it.

USB Spider driver is crap?, what ???
i've never noticed that and i am a registered owner of one, are you?

@dd

lol
so, was there ever a sign at all?, its an small Amiga company with limited funds and big plans which didn't come to frution.

Yes, it's not false :)) Are you joking?
The problem with Sonnet-Crescendo aka Shark PPC is that is to slow trough PCI slot on Mediator..
Plan is to rebaged the Sonnet and sell for 200 € more from regular price!
That is why is all project stoped in 2001/2 and then only in use for marketing...
"Hey buy Mediator and upgrade your Amiga with new PPC card"...
Next phase is:" When OS4 is out...in 2003/4/5
Then Dragon in 2006 "whose working with Mediator"...buy the way in their informations..
Then 2008 and exciting "new hardware" message for New Year" (its revision of Mediator TX version)
Then Radeon drivers with Raden cards for 90 euros..
For USB drivers Iam meaning on Posidon stack for Spider ..
You have it for FREE now in Elbox promotion...BUT hardware is 100 euro expensive from 2011 becuose of "higher costs of the components used in the production."
Which components?
Spider is NEC card wich cost 10 euros max
In other hand, Iam am glad that that they didn't make exra money trough Sonnet and Dragon..
And yes they are small company in every way..

I totally agree. We should all be greatful for any new classic hardware that is made. Especially considering the Amiga 1200 came out in 1993, almost 20 years ago. My Amiga 1200 tower wouldn't be what it is today without Elbox products (ie: Mediator and FastATA).

Here's to you Elbox, for sticking with us through thick and thin.

OK Elbox fair enough for top banners, no more SharkPPC pictures on a right side ! No more Shark PPC and Dragon Coldfire promotions.
Shark is deleted even from product list.
It's OK if you put it on develompent list or some, a none finished project page but not like before on front page like top products "just around the corner"...
Some aproppriete explanation about this project (after all this years) should be given to the community to.
