| The usual last famous words .. ! found another very little bug ..
To reproduce it --> open the App-Store section --> click on the "Recent Uploads" button --> click on the NetSurf file in order to download it
Here i always got:
Quote:
Cannot write to file RAM:RAM:netsurf-lha ! File: baselibrary.hws (current line 134 - In function: OpenFile) |
A double RAM: assignment ? _________________ BACK FOR THE FUTURE

Cool, just installed Jack 3.2, play with it a bit and all goes well
- However i have some more question/request, i'm trying to close the program but for what i can read on the readme it seems that the "q" key are marked to work only on the AROS version .. why ? Can you add this support key also on the OS4 binary ?
- A new version of the standalone Assist 0.43 program was recently released, it add a lot of new things/bug fixed, maybe (hopefully) you can update to the same release your Assist version included into the Jack archive ?
- I note a very annoying flickering issue everytime there is an automatic update into the main Jack window, for example each time a minute is passed and the clock will be updated still this strange graphical effect, is it possible to finally fix it in order to avoid any flickering effect ?
Well done !

Hey Samo, thanks for the feedback.
3. Yeah, its a limitation I hit in Hollywood, its not possible to have a double buffered transparent layer. That's the reason why I removnd the Seconds 'hand' from the clock display - to make the flicker less noticeable. I may take another look and see if there is another approach, but clearly I don't wanna sacrifice the transparency.
2. The knowledge base in Jack takes Daniel's original concept and takes it in a different direction. The two software packages are only linked in the way they look. Which is why I renamed it to clarify the distinction between the two, we both do our own things at opposing speeds of development. From a technical point of view its not possible to just share code as Assist is done directly in Hollywood Designer whereas Jack is written in pure Hollywood code so everything has to be written from scratch. Please identify any particular of interest.
1. AMIGA+Q quits Jack! _________________

That's very odd. I guess I'll have to fake myself as a non-Push4Dock user and check out the App-Store- because all my downloads currently go in Downloads:. Hopefully its a simple fix.
EDIT: Fixed. In the process of repackaging everything again (which is very time-consuming!), will be on OS4Depot again soon.Last edited by djrikki on 07-May-2012 at 12:41 PM. Last edited by djrikki on 07-May-2012 at 12:39 PM. Last edited by djrikki on 07-May-2012 at 12:28 PM.

The lack of asychnronous downloads was the only bugbear for me when using Jack, so this is a very welcome update.

Well fixing the flickering annoyance will take more than just an hour as the interface is 'finely meshed' into the whole eco-system.

The dictionary can be easily added to over time, plenty of images missing for sure as well, see the 'gtmooya' drawer if your curious about the inner workings of it. Atm it is read locally from the user's drive, in the future I would prefer to be able to update the dictionary remotely and grab images from a server on-the-fly. Of course don't forget you can submit articles yourself for review... which reminds me I spotted one on the server earlier.Last edited by djrikki on 07-May-2012 at 01:42 PM. Good to see Jack development continuing at a pace, liking the image editor right now.
@samo79
As djrikki has said Assist and Jack's Knowledge Base work quite differently despite looking much the same.
Assist was originally built entirely in Hollywood Designer, however as time goes on it depends increasingly on hand coding (as I learn Hollywood).
Right now the articles in Assist are updated via Hollywood Designer, rather than an XML file as in Jack, while new functionality for Assist is being 'hand coded'. Assist may eventually use an XML file too, a universal XML could be readable by both programs, but for now I have other ideas taking priority. _________________ gtmooya's blog

Forgot to mention I updated the documentation in regard to 'Quit Jack' as well in addition to updating Jack's official website. Just need to get around to updating a few images on there to match today's updated AmigaOS.net entry. Last edited by djrikki on 07-May-2012 at 08:52 PM.

| @djrikki:
Thanks for the new version and the ongoing development!
Currently I've one question regarding the usage/support of Push4Dock. Since I could not find a version of it having a proper documentation and since it is also tied to a hard coded partition (assign) I did not install Push4Dock. So I wonder what exact features of Jack cannot be used as long as Push4Dock is not installed? Could you please detail this a little bit more? Does it affect the icons presented on the new interface of Jack?
Thanks in advance!

When you install Push4Dock you get:
Documents: Images: Music: Videos: Downloads:
Jack takes advantage of these in the sidebar of the File Manager. In addition images taken via Screen Capture end up, appropriately in Images: and downloaded software from the App-Store end up in Downloads:.
Its purely optional.
If the developers see sense in AmigaOS 4.2 and provide these assignments as standard I will update the File Manager accordingly. Last edited by djrikki on 08-May-2012 at 11:18 PM.

| Can't get the AROS version to install. The installer acts like it is working but nothing is installed at the end.
