New RadeonHD Series 7 Support
Cardiff, 3rd October 2012

A-EON Technology and HDRLab are pleased to announce that AmigaOS 4 now includes full support for AMD Radeon HD series 7 graphics cards.

Version 0.54 of the Radeon HD driver, which has been exclusively funded by and licensed to A-EON Technology, will be available for download from the A-EON Technology website in the near future. A-EON's Trevor Dickinson commented, “This is a major achievement for AmigaOS 4.1 which now supports graphics cards throughout the Radeon HD range, including the latest series 7 cards. We are especially proud to have funded this development and wish to congratulate Hans on his outstanding work.” Developer Hans de Ruiter added, “It was a long and at times difficult development, but I am extremely pleased that AmigaOS now supports the latest in graphic card technology.”

Registered owners of new AmigaOne 500 and selected Sam460 systems purchased directly from ACube can also download the driver.

No. It looks like that will be implemented via Gallium.

Congratulations Hans!

This is the type of work that will start buying the platform some respect. Timely support for the current series of ATI/AMD GPU is a first!

Hans - any hints as to your next project?

Amiwest should be interesting. It will be good to hear the progress on 3D support.

@Spectre660

Yep. The blog certainly reads like my blog at work. (I do it so the boss will know what I've been working on.) The lack of accurate documentation and just plain shooting myself in the foot brings on just those sorts of elation and dejection. So I do empathize with Hans (in my own non-super-hero way).

I remember back then a programmer was writing a driver for BeOS and a friend of him working for the card manufacturer told him that it took 2 years to wrote the windows driver by a team of engineers so the guy gave up.
So thumbs up for that.

@Templario

Both Sam440ep and Sam460ex Uboot may need an update for all cards to work.
Both Machines have problems with some HD 6570 cards,the 460ex with some HD 5670 cards and both with some HD 6750 and HD 6770 cards. When I found this out I stopped getting any new cards.Will wait for official info from Acube or Amigakit if they try some Series 6 and 7 RadeonHD cards .

@Templario

The problems is that if Uboot does not setup the card properly there will be no video output from the card. not the fault of the driver but of Uboot. I have to wait for the official release from A-eon and I do not have a Radeon HD 7 series card to test so I will have to wait for word from A-Eon or Amigakit or Acube as to what works with the Sam 460ex. But I have explained what I have found with the series 6000 cards that I have tried which are rebranded series 5000 cards. So dont buy any new cards for your Sam460ex until you have official feed back on what works in the HD5000,HD6000 and HD7000 series

Latest version of RadeonHD.chip I have is 0.53 and when I download from A-EON's website that is latest available? I have it installed and working fine, is there a later version available and if so where to download it from, I got mine from A-EON which I thought where latest version would be.

Edit: The Registered customers link on here does not work for me, anyone else with this problem?

@Sicky

The new Radeon HD drivers will be uploaded to the A-EON in the near future and will be available for download.

I will check out your registration details.
