Exactly ten years ago today, Hollywood 1.0 was shipped to the first customers. Since then the software has grown to one of the largest Amiga programs and is now available for all major systems including the mobile platform Android. To celebrate the success story of Hollywood, version 5.2 has been released today for all existing customers of Hollywood. Hollywood 5.2 is a major update which includes several new features among the usual bug fixes. Here is a brief overview of new features in 5.2:

- video system is now completely platform-independent which means that Hollywood video plugins will work now on every system incl. Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Android
- support for commodity hotkeys (Amiga)
- support for tray icons (Windows)
- extensions in the plugin interface
- own error handler can be defined
- support for multiple screens (Amiga)
- improved support for Android
- better support for animations using alphachannels

A complete list of changes can be found in the history section of the documentation.

Hollywood 5.2 is the first joint release of Hollywood for both desktop and mobile platforms. Please note that Hollywood 5.2 is currently only available for existing customers and cannot be purchased at this time.

while i'm pleased to see such an update, does anyone find it a little bizarre that the software is not available for purchase, and that absolutely no explanation has been given as to why? this post is a bit like a tease.

You had almost ten years to purchase it.
That was not enough? :)

Seriously, I hope this will change in the near future.

I still don't understand the whole story about Hollywood. It seems it fell into the Twilight Zone

The unavailability is all very odd, but please reserve your comments to encouragement. Some day we will all hear the whole story. At least I hope so.

Great news, now I just have to find time to actually sit down and use it!

First job will to be release JackCharts for all platforms, been waiting for the next release so I can remove the Curl dependancy any make it platform-independent.

PS. On a similar trail of though - it seems nobody has a problem with the adverts inside of Jack - however if you do have a problem with them you can simply log into the AppStore and click 'Remove Adverts'. It only costs 5 to make them disappear and ensures my continued interest in its future development!

I was actually thinking of buying it just as it was announced that it would no longer be sold and this was actually the reason i choose not to buy it, as the future then does not look promising.

This is bad for even those who own it today, as even updates will stop coming eventually when there is no way to earn money on new customers.
Also this really suggests that there are legal issues that stops them from selling it.

It is sad that once hollywood finally matured they had to pull it..

Oh well.. At least some good news for those who already bought it.

You should not be too pessimistic. Of course Andreas could stop development but at least for now he is further developing it. What future brings who knows, on the long run we are all dead . I want to do something with it next year and look forward to use it.

Hello my friends - hello Andreas.
Congratulations to 10 years of Hollywood.

Hollywood is for us at the moment
the BEST software developing tool on the market to realize our projects.

Most everthing is possible - and you don't need to much time to get perfect results. And the incredible - you can provide your software on any known machine and system on this planet.
Our software titles look the same on
an Amiga, Apple, Window, Linux or Android Computer - that's amazing.

So - Andreas keep on - we wanna see you working on Hollywood6.

Greetings Achim Kern KeHo Software
