Hello,
I have uploaded some new / updated software on OS4Depot.
There are aTunes 1.0, FastView 1.7, NetDock 50.9 and qt ports (new smTube, QuicklyTranslate and qtWeb)

aTunes 1.0

aTunes is a MUI program which will allow you to manage your music files, show the file's tags, play them and build M3U playlists.

It makes use of the LibTag to display tags and CoverArt of your music files. Plus very minimalist iTunes... (Please click 'Read more')

I tried ATunes, works well with my 28864 mp3's

A few things...

I suggest you set the default db path to PROGDIR: not ENVARC: then most people won't need to change it and envarc is not the place for a multi-megabyte file.

Can the lists be left justified instead of centered which will make it much easier while scrolling to see where you have got to. Maybe a tooltype to choose left or center?

In the main list replace blank entries with 'unknown' or just '-'.

Can the GUI be shrunk a bit? The path above the list isn't really needed with the full path/file also shown below, the database path & name, number of entries, load time etc could go in an info window or even the window titlebar.
The list is the important bit and it gets less than half the gui.

The weights for the filter window I would suggest you use double for the album name than artist and genre as they are normally a lot longer.

Multiselect on as default because it just makes life easier.

The scan is alsp picking up MP4 video files, they need to be filtered out but M4A kept.

Maybe add mpega (cli command) support for a lightweight player?

Can't change the background of anything below the main list.

Great work, I can't wait to see how it evolves.

Thank you guys for your nice comments.

IntuitionAmiga :
No, my program is only AmigaOS4.

Samo79 :
Feel free to send me the updates, you know my email adress

Severin :

How much time aTunes spent to scan/saves your 28864 MP3 ?
And how much time to reload the database in next starts ?

1) ENVARC :
you are right, but where can I store this database, not in the PROGDIR: as it could be deleted by update or by user ?
Is a drawer in Workbench reserved for program's datas like /usr/local/ or /home in Unix world ?

2) left or center justify :
yes, done by Tooltype (default = centered)

3) replace blank by "--"
no, I personaly prefer blank, it's more visible for me to show that a tag is missing

EDIT : i'm just thinking that I could add too a Tooltype "EMPTY_TAG_STRING" to specify the replacement string if a tag is missing (default will be ="")
I will see that tomorrow...

4) reduce space:
yes and no, done partially.
I have removed the upper path, put the db info into the lower part...
(I discovered a bug, drawer scanned didn't change when aTunes was scanning for songs, now curent scanned drawer is displayed in the lower file text area)

5) Album filter list width
yes, done by Tooltype (default = same size that 2 others lists)

6) Multiselect by default:
It's the case, no ? It works for me
I use MUIV_NList_MultiSelect_Default in my lists,
from the MUI doc
" The multi select type (with or without shift) depends on
the users preferences setting."

I could add MUIV_Listview_MultiSelect_Always:
"Overrides the users prefs, multi selecting without shift key."
but no,
"Please do *not* override the users prefs unless you have a good reason!"

7) MP4 scan :
yes, done by Tooltype (default is to NOT include MP4 files)

8) mpega
no, it works well for me with AAmp and TuneNet, I don't want to waste time to try to implement something very very worst than a working solution .

9) background changes
I don't know where is the problem, the below part is a standard MUI frame and I don't have MUI key to test to change the background.

Sorry, for the "no" (aTunes looks like that I wanted to make) but PM sent to you if you want to try the "yes"

Guillaume

zzd10h:

Already PM'd the info but for public viewing...

28664 songs scanned in 7 minutes 5 seconds

28694 song(s) loaded in 00:00:03

1. the PROGDIR: database would only be deleted by an update if an atunes.db file was included in the update. if the user deletes the db then that's up to them... You could set the protection bits to RW-- so the user can't delete it by accident.

There is no equivalent to /usr/local or /home which has always been a good thing as far as I'm concerned, let the user decide where to put things.

I still think PROGDIR: is a better default choice or even PROGDIR:data/

2. Thank you

3. ok, but with the default size window when the database it looks like nothing has loaded as all the empty mp3 tags are at the top, although the scrollbar popping up is a bit of a clue...

4. looks better thank you

5. I like the new width but the entries are still centered with CENTERED_LIST=OFF

6. oh well...

7. Thank you

8. fair enough, just thinking of the classic and low end sam440 users really.

9. oh dear...

1) i thought that updates will delete the contents of the drawer, if it's not the case, yes you are right, go for ./Data/aTunes.db

3) as edited in my previous comment, will make a tooltype to specify a default string for empty tags.

5) ah yes, true, I have just modified then main list, not the filters lists, will solve that

See you and thx for suggestions and reply

It's only the logically challenged OS's that do silly things like that. I can think of 3 rather well known ones almost instantly

Mmm i'm with Severin on this one, remember when initially i though it was a bug ?
A blank space could create confusion, better add a "-" or similar imho

Ok, I'm back again and this time it's QtWeb...

A couple of problems...

Every page loaded asks for a volume to be mounted (twice) which is the linux style path of where the program was started with T: added eg. /work/QT-4.7/Programs/QtWeb/T:

Saving the prefs asks for the volume file:

Posting this from QtWeb...

Like aTunes a lot, works really well and fills a bit of a 'gap' for me, making it easier to browse my music collection.

Would be cool to have an aTunes styled theme for AmigaAMP.

Thanks!

Why? It's written using MUI so there is no technical reason why not.

I'd be willing to compile your source for real Amigas and MorphOS if you don't have access to those platforms. AROS/x86 too if you want.

The more users you have the better. :)

@ zzd10h

thanks for these useful programs. I'll try them out once I can figure out I can't get Qt installed properly.

@klx300r :

aTunes and FastView are not Qt programs. so no need to install Qt

True, it could be useful to install Qt to use smTube (really useful program, imho)

@intuition-amiga :
I have a MOS compatible system but I don't use it, therefore I make soft for OS4 only.

I tried months earlier to port my SysMon program on MorphOS but it was not as easy that you seem to say.
Certainly that it's because I don't know MUI very well, but even the MUI part only didn't worked with a simple recompilation.
And to be honest, first, I make program for my own use (but I'm extremely happy when some Amigans find them usefuls and post good comments).

To conclude, I have enough to do and I'm very busy on AmigaOS4, I have fun with this OS and really I don't have time to port (and, after, to maintain) my stuffs on a system that I don't use.

@Kicko :
You are welcome

SmTube
New upload of smTube on OS4Depot :
-added german translation from Thomas 'TommySammy' Blatt
-fixed an incorrect assign request about USR: for users who don't have SDK installed.
Thanks to Patrick 'PiouPiou' Poirier for the bug notification

That's your decision and I respect it. However, as an AROS user and distro mantainer, I'd say it would be great if you changed your mind. After all, IntuitionAmiga wasn't asking you to mantain different ports of aTunes, but he kindly offered to do this work for you, if technically feasible.

Don't underextimate the power of collaboration: you may even learn new tips and tricks you didn't consider in the first place, that might return to be highly useful for your OS4 coding too. Please keep this as a friendly, kind suggestion. Or just ignore it, as you wish.

regards,
