Amigaworld.net News : Updated BootFloppy for Amiga 3000 computers available |

Much to Hyperion Entertainments regret it was noticed that the bootfloppy originally shipped with AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition for Amiga 1200, 3000 and 4000 computers contains a defective KickLayout file, which makes it impossible to boot on an Amiga 3000 computer. In order to remedy this situation, registered customers of AmigaOS 4.1 Final Edition for classic Amiga computers may download an updated bootfloppy as ADF image from the download area.
Alternatively, experienced users may follow the manual instructions on the Hyperion support forum.
Hyperion Entertainment apologises for any inconvenience caused by this and wishes a merry christmas to all its customers! |

| The description is a bit wrong. The problem isn't the boot floppy, but the CD. The KickLayout-A3000 has a typo in it. However, by moving that fixed file to the floppy and loading it from there instead of the CD (via adjustment of the boot floppy's startup-sequence), means it can be fixed without having to burn a new CD, although there is still a quick manual edit you need to do after installation (since installation will copy the unfixed file from the CD).
For a detailed explanation, here's what I could see when examining the booting process (I don't own an A3000 and I'm going by my non-FE Update 2 CD). The floppy without the change will mount the CD, and assign SYS: to the System directory amongst other assigns, then run the Startup-Sequence (from :System/S/Startup-Sequence on the CD). The fixed floppy bypasses running the Startup-Sequence, where the first stage is primarily to run C:BootLoader (with some command line options). So, that line is shifted to the floppy instead, with a parameter to load the KickLayout from a manual location. Upon the BootLoader completing, the CD will boot from its Startup-Sequence, which is fine because exec.library's version is checked and that part of the Startup-Sequence is now skipped over.
Another fix is just to add the missing "r" in KickLayout-A3000 and burn a new disc if you'd rather do that. Last edited by MickJT on 24-Dec-2014 at 06:28 PM. Last edited by MickJT on 24-Dec-2014 at 06:25 PM. Last edited by MickJT on 24-Dec-2014 at 06:14 PM.

| Do they also include a tool to write it to floppy drive?
ADFs tend to be good for emulation but not so good for a real Amiga. |
