Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : SimpleMail 0.41 released for AOS3 and AOS4
posted by eliyahu on 25-Dec-2014 15:08:44 (2955 reads)
In what seems to be a Christmas tradition, the SimpleMail team has released an update to their excellent Amiga mailer. From their announcement:

Quote:
The Final Edition of SimpleMail on SourceForge has been released! Version 0.41 comes with following changes:

* Added some server certificate checks including the possibility to manually specify the fingerprints of the remote servers
* For AmigaOS 4.x, a version statically linked against OpenSSL will be temporarily provided, at least until AmiSSL has been updated. For this version, OpenSSL 1.0.1j is used.
* Some development infrastructure changes have been undertaken including the move of the source code repository from SourceForge to GitHub (https://github.com/sba1/simplemail)

The SimpleMail Team wishes you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year 2014!

You can download updated versions for both AOS3 (link) and AOS4 (link with openssl, link without openssl). Doesn't look like a big update, but still worth it to grab the latest build. Enjoy!

Using OpenSSL is a big update and very visible to users. Your systems should crash a lot less with it compared to memory trashing AmiSSL :)

I'm a bit worried what "Final Edition" means... Can someone in-the-know please clarify?

I was thinking the same way, but i guess it is just unlucky sentence

"The Final Edition of SimpleMail on SourceForge..."
"...move of the source code repository from SourceForge to GitHub"

so I guess it is the last version developed while using SF, since now they will use GitHub...

Whatever it means, it's still good news.

@TrevorD
1. It's not good news if it's the last version of SimpleMail to ever be released. But I can think of two other possible interpretations:
2. It's the version of Simple Mail bundled with OS4.1 Final Edition.
3. It's the last version stored on Source Forge (as someone else suggested).

I'd like clarification as to which is the correct interpretation.

This rather amusing error message appears when fetching mail.
