  Amigaworld.net News : Kickstarter launched to celebrate the Amiga 30th Anniversary in California
   posted by TrevorDick on 20-Mar-2015 5:21:41 (2773 reads)
Come join us for a celebration of the Amiga, its groundbreaking accomplishments and its rich history at the Computer History Museum - Link: Amiga 30th Anniversary

On July 23rd, 1985, the world was introduced to the Commodore Amiga Computer. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of the Amiga's launch and to commemorate that seminal event in computer history we are throwing a party.

Join us on Saturday, July 25th, in a celebration of the amazing Amiga. Our party will feature an evening of epic Amiga Fun. The event will be a banquet with feature speakers, panel discussion, historical artifact displays, and more.

The main event for the banquet will be a panel discussion of original Amiga developers including:

Dale Luck
Carl Sassenrath
Dave Needle
RJ Mical
Plus more

The panel topics will cover start-up life in 1985, building the Amiga 1000, and how the Amiga influenced technology over the last 30 years.

Additional speakers will include:

* Trevor Dickinson, co-founder of A-EON Technology, makers of next generation Amiga systems and software.

* Colin Proudfoot, Former Managing Director of Commodore Business Machines (UK)

* Mike Battilana, Founder CEO of Cloanto, maker of the Amiga Forever emulation software.

We will also have video presentations including a special extended clip from the upcoming “Viva Amiga” documentary video presented by "Viva Amiga" producer Zack Weddington.

Great initiative!

Regrettably I can't attend in person as I am already booked on a trip in another country on those dates and can't change it...

Checking the kickstarter site I note that the interesting t-shirts and other items can only be shipped to US and EU...There are other countries with Amiga fans that would like these too!

Sad that as an Australian I can't get these items to support the effort and get a nice memorial reminder of the 30th anniversary too. I hope these goals will be opened up to Australia delivery too so I can get them! Please consider it.

Catcha,
Epsilon

Just a quick question if the kickstarter fails to meet its goal is the show/event still going to take place? Just so if I do book hotels, flights etc it not going to be a waste. still debating to go this or Amiwest or even the Amsterdam one, can only really afford one, and kinda want to do an american holiday.

@All

Thanks for the support.

@Epslion: Please blog about the event! In return we will open up shipping to AUS . Actually we will be opening up more countries before it's over. Shipping is a challenge for events like this so we wanted to launch and back fill. Don't worry dude, we'll get you covered.

@AmigaNG: The plan is to fund the event with the kickstarter campaign. It's the first day and we are 21% funded. I'd book the hotel.

@Amiga Community

As this event is shaping up I think we have a chance to really put on something special. Something that can show the technology world we are still hear and going strong. Backing the kickstarter, event for a small amount, will help the kickstarter gain backers and raise it's viability.

Thanks all!

@all

Happy to report that we have updated the kickstarter to include shipping options for the whole world. That's right, we'll ship you the perks pretty much anyplace USPS delivers.

We are also 42% funded and have 48 backers. Amazing response so far. Our next update will include a list of notable Amigan's who are coming for the party.

Stay tuned!

Quick update: 10 days in and we are 54% funded.
The response has been terrific. As news of the event grows we are getting more and more people who created Amiga history signing up. So far we can announce:

Lee Özer - co-wrote DPaint
Jim Mackraz - Development Director Commodore Amiga Inc
Jim Sachs - Legendary artist

Any support is appreciated, even $10 will help us make this a great party.

Thank you!
