software OS4   software OS4 : AMIStore: Warp3D RadeonHD Southern Islands
   posted by amigakit on 1-Apr-2015 15:45:14 (13745 reads)
New 3D Drivers for AmigaOS 4.1
Warp3D for Southern Islands Graphics Cards

A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce that the first release candidate of RadeonHD Southern Islands Warp3D driver is now available to purchase and download from AMIStore App Store.

Following our acquisition of the joint ownership of Warp3D, to complement our ongoing work with the driver for the Evergreen RadeonHD graphics card series, we commissioned AmigaOS graphics specialist Hans de Ruiter to create a Warp3D driver for the newer Southern Islands chipsets.

PDF News Release (click here)

At the heart of the new Southern Island Warp3D driver is the W3D_SI.library which provides 3D graphics acceleration for selected Radeon HD 7xxx and Radeon Rx series graphics cards which include the Southern Islands Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The driver has already gone through several iterations and has been put through its paces by a core group of dedicated AmigaOS 4 beta testers.

Warp3D-SI Features:

* Supports larger textures (up to 16384x16384 memory permitting).

* Performance is less dependent on resolution than previous drivers, including rendering at HD resolutions.

* Submits vertices to the GPU via vertex buffers rather than directly in the command stream (one of the bottlenecks of the old Radeon drivers).

* Uses the RadeonHD_RM.resource for VRAM allocation, providing more efficient memory management than own system.

* Accumulates small vertex arrays into larger buffers to provide faster performance where lots of tiny render operations are performed

* Doesn't lock the entire graphics system between
3D_LockHardware() / W3D_UnlockHardware(), so an
application or game crash is less likely to freeze the entire system

To complement the development Hans de Ruiter has also updated MiniGL and at the time of writing version 2.20 was ready for release on Warp3D.

New updated RadeonHD drivers are also being released to coincide with the update. Registered owners can
now download the new versions of 1.4 and 2.7 from AMIstore.

Warp3D RadeonHD Southern Islands Requirements:

An AmigaONE or AmigaOS 4.1 compatible computer with:-

* AmigaOS 4.1 “Final Edition”
* RadeonHD V1.4 or V2.7
* MiniGL - version 2.20 or later

Containing one of the following RadeonHD or Radeon Rx Southern Island graphics cards:

* Radeon HD 7750-7970 series graphics card (excluding the Radeon HD 7790)
* Radeon R7 250X/265 (excluding R7 250)
* Radeon R9 270/270X/280/280X

This version is the first Release Candidate (version 1.9).

With this release A-EON is once again pleased to re-affirm our commitment to providing new and progressive software for AmigaOS and towards our customers.

We would like to thank Hans De Ruiter for his work on this release.

@all

You can use PCI-E 16x Extender cables (minimum 24cm)..
This cable overlaps over PCI-E 1x, PCI slot.

I use Envy24HT, PCI 3114 with Radeon R7 265 at the same time.

@Spectre660 & Rob

In case anyone is confused by the R7 250E, it is neither a 250 or 250X. It uses the same Cape Verde PRO chipset which is used in the 7750. The only difference between the R7 250E and the HD 7750 is the R7 has 4.5GHz memory.

@PhantomInterrogative

I have a Club3D R7 250E which works fine! It is also a rebranded 7750.

https://cdn-reichelt.de/documents/datenblatt/E810/C3D_CGAX-R7252L_DS.pdf

But i am not shure if all Radeon 250E are rebranded, on my PDF is the "Verde Pro" described, is this on the XFX too, did not found that there. But if yes, the Card should work.

I purchased the card for my Sam460 because I don't want to loose my PCI for the SATA controller and I need a low profile because my small tower. The Club3D is a little bit noisy but ok.

Just ensure the card has DDR5 memory and not DDR3 memory (see AMIStore description)

Very nice news!!

I hope a Gigabyte AMD Radeon HD 7970 3Gb will work as thats whats in my PC right now. Might wait however to buy the software and move the card over until the new AMD 300x Series hit as then the prices of the 200x series will tumble so I can buy one of them to replace it with, should be out in 3 months time.

Still also hoping for news on the Radiance Software collection as well.

But great work A-eon and devs.

Will a purchase of Warp3Dsi entitle the customer to the Evergreen release when ready? Some may want to buy Warp3D now to support you and are happy to wait for their Evergreen card to be supported.

Thanks!

The Southern Islands driver is a very different driver to the Evergreen driver. They are both separate (costly) projects and consequently have different budgets.

Ok. In future, when both SI & EV are out, will warp3D be merged into one package? It would seem messy to have two sets of RadeonHD for AmigaOS.

No plans to merge them - but it is for another good reason - to be revealed in the future.

Nice work guys. I really need to get my X1000 updated to the latest drivers. I'm way behind.

Hardware Transformation, Lighting and Clipping (that TCL) in warp3d will be pretty good. Probably can speed everything up in few times.

You know how long can take anything in amigaland (years and years), and in end not everything can or will be done, so if you want 3d right now, better go for supported card driver for which we already have right now. The more users will check the driver, the more bugs will be reported and fixed :)

Btw
Congrats to all involved. Having no 3d was a real demotivating show stopper.
Thank you for your continuous work.
Looking forward for the hd4xxx support.

(Still on a sam440 here)

I test ioquake3 today on X1000 and Radeon R9 280X...
Expensiv card but really good performance

ikir

This too brings me sadness. I have a Radeon 6450. Because of my Sam 460ex setup, I need a Low Profile, single slot card.

The only card that is compatible that I can find is one:

Radeon 7750 1GB Low profile

Guess I shall order it and see what happens :)

good to see that development, congratulation on achievement, aeon. even though in my opinion 3d support in whatever form should be included in the os (as it was apparently originally intended) rather that it needs to be provided commercially by third party companies. nevertheless, there is apparently no other way left.

for the sake of benchmarking, the infamous cow3d5 on my winuae setup (os 3.x 68k, hardware accelerated wazp3d on surface pro host) gives me the half of the speed in comparison to the mentioned above results of the new warp3d driver.
