Call for Amiga Developers
Kickstarting PowerPC and 68k software development

Sacramento 17th October 2015

As part of our ongoing commitment to deliver quality software content for both PowerPC and 68K Amiga systems A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased announce a new initiative for Amiga software developers.

In the past year we launched the AMIStore app store which has been enthusiastically supported by both Amiga developers and users.

AMIStore performance update:

44 software titles
Customer base ~700
Over 2200 paid transactions

……..and growing month on month

We have also purchased many Classic and Next-Generation AmigaOS titles as well as funding the development of several new applications and utilities. As part of this drive to improve the amount and quality of Amiga software we have created a dedicated SVN resource for all developers working on our applications. We have also implemented a Mantis bug tracker together with a developer mailing list and Wiki to aid software development. We now have 14 developers engaged in paid development work on 23 software projects. However, we are keen to expand and accelerate our software development effort to create new applications and utilities for the PowerPC and 68k platforms.

Call for Amiga Developers
We are looking for experienced Amiga developers to work on our existing applications and create new content for both the 68k and PowerPC platforms. If you are an existing or former Amiga developer and want to help create new software applications for the 68k or PowerPC platform please visit:

there is no reason to apology or for a-eon to justify...

I also doubt that there will be MorphOS and AROS versions because:

1.a-eon is clearly AOS orientated so the software will be optimized for AOS. But the more a software is optimized for one system the more complicated and expensive ports become

2.There are few developers left who have experience with porting software on other platforms

So in short, I do not think there will be ports to AROS and MorphOS. To include it is marketing, not more not less

But who cares...

Then he would smile, as his platform is AROS 68k...

@Yasu (et all):

Why don't you guys take your holier-than-you attitude and shove it where the sun doesn't shine?

A-EONkit is a commercial entity, and there's no real money in MorphOS or AROS - it's only natural that they don't have much interest in these two systems. They can't state that publicly though, because people like you guys would immediately go on a crusade. And somebody would start whining about "lack of cooperation" again, as if that that had any meaning in 2015. So for A-EONkit, it's basically a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't kind of thing.

So we get the same bullcrap every time Trevor or Matthew burp or fart. It's getting tiresome.

Given their product range, I'm not even sure what all the fuss is about anyway. I think AROS and MorphOS will do just fine without CANDI or updated versions of Aladdin and PPaint.

Bah, now you guys made me defend A-EONkit. Time to go outside and yell at some random children again.

@cgutjahr

*sigh*

This has nothing to do with "holier-than-though" attitude. I do like what A-Eon and AmigaKit is doing. Note that I don't go around telling people that they suck for not supporting X.

What I AM saying is that they have told us that they want to support MorphOS and AROS for a couple of years now, which is something I really appriciate, but up until now there has been little of that support showing. Which makes me sad as I hoped it would happen, and still hope will happen.

Look, I do wish the two companies the best. My post should not be read as whining or trash-talking but as a plea from a person who wants to see cross developing a reality. Which is something I think AmigaKit and A-Eon can actually do.

I think I qualify as sincere. I did donate to the AmigaOS 4 OWB port even though I personally doesn't benefit from it. And that because of reason mentioned above.

I said Wawa that he takes everything too personal but you and eder and some other are candidates too. What Yasu meant was that a-eon and amigakit all the time mention Aros and MorphOS everywhere but never do something. It would be more honest not to mention them at all (just 3.X and 4.X). Yasu said one MOS developer offered porting PPaint to MOS and it was put down. If true it answers your question already.

I do not know if Gutjahrs ranting was at me too but if he mentions Aros that much..

@Gutjahr

If you have read my postings then you would have read why I think they will not. And it is rational. It is also rational for me then of course not to buy software from a-eon because it does not run on my own preferred platform (Aros 68k). Nothing personal, not emotional just that it makes no sense for me to buy.

BTW I have bought PPaint 68k. Unfortunately it does not work on Aros 68k. No ranting or moaning, just mentioning the fact. I have to assume that this will happen with all other new a-eon software too so buying makes no sense to me personal. But that has everybody to decide for himself.

Maybe you should fix AROS 68k ?

Or give some decent feedback crash logs or otherwise when asked rather than going silent in PM w or not ignore me when I joined you forums just to follow up on your thread on it not working?

Or perhaps a working PPaint would be inconvenient as it stops you from using it as Amo?

i wouldnt rule that option out at least. there is at least one prominent example of software that doesnt work on aros68k, which is hd-rec. it starts but fails when invoking menus. similarly ibrowse, starts but doesnt render page content while working with menus is alright. in both cases its due to likely similar reasons like poking with the internal or undocumented structures of the system, respectively mui.

what concerns hd-rec there was afair discussion about it with the author, thilo, but neither side has ready to take step forward and compromise, neither the aros team to adjust the structures, nor thilo to stop poking them for speed reasons. so the issue remains unfortunately unresolved.

i dont know why and where your ppaint fails with aros. the genuine one works rather well as far as i used it. alas im not in mood to register at some appstore and buy it just in order to catch some serial logs. but olaf could do that i guess. he just needs to run the winuae with -log -serlog options and copy the output from the console.

I don't know the terms for releasing source code to any developers, Maybe Yasu & his developer friend couldn't come to an agreement with a-eon. The camp war is just ugly & there is no love loss because of it. I'm sure a-eon will be very choosy who gets any code. I'd be carefull who you & others blame if things don't work out for your camp. This is a situation most of us hate & never wanted, but here we are...

@sundown

I mentioned that a MorphOS programmer offered to port PPaint for free but was turned down, so it's not the blue side that stands in the way at least.
