Amigaworld.net News   Amigaworld.net News : Odyssey Web Browser Endianess Bounty Open
posted by Raffaele on 8-Feb-2016 13:10:15 (6932 reads)
Hello dear fellows Amigans!

It took to me some amount of time to understand how to create Bounty on BountySource and I must first join Deadwood Odyssey Web Browser project on GitHub, in order to create an official ISSUE report, but at least I succeded.

(Without official issue report from developers site, BountySource does not start any bounty! Strange but true!)

Now Bounty is Open!

https://www.bountysource.com/issues/30646188-odyssey-web-browser-solve-ppc-webkit-javascript-engine-endianess-problems-inherited-from-webkit-x86

This is truly a call to arms for all us Amigans!

Donate to let developers being awarded for solve all endianess issues that afflict PPC Odyssey Web Browser Webkit Javascript Engine.

A browser flawlessly working is necessary condition to let PPC processors continue being used as productive desktop machines!

I created the bounty and just starting collecting money by donating the first 10 US$.

Now it is up to you to let our platform survive!

Donate! Donate! Donate!

I will be more motivated to donate if only two things would be clarified.

1. Who will take the job?
2. What price is sufficient for the job for the one who takes the job?

I know that somewhere it should be started, but I am not so confident in that this is the best first step.

Of course this is strictly "IMHO".

No one knows better the price than "Who".

Collecting the money without a limit we can't decide if it is insufficient or there is no one "Who" can/want take the job.

At this very moment Bountysource adviced me that it has been collected 240$. I think that once reaching 700/800/1000 the developers will start asking for assign.
If two or three will join in a team sure it will be better as they could divide not only money but mainly time and efforts...

The problem isn't fixing the endian issues, the problem is integrating those changes in main webkit tree and convincing main tree maintainers to avoid breaking big endian builds.

@ Raffaele

Well thanks. I want to move forward with AmigaNG. $$$ is a great way to do that. It's more fun than complaining.

I couldn't negotiate the provided link.
Do I have to use microsoft?
All I have is my X1000.
For instance I could find no place to "register"... only "Sign In"

Is there anyone who already agree to take a work ?

As far as i ware - nope. What mean, that money will collect dust and there is no known limit.

I am sure for first we should find person who will do so, and ask how much he want, and only after making all that bounty-shmounty.

Imho, that was too fast.

You should really secure an able developer, preferably someone experienced with WebKit (as in, someone who already has his code in the official webkit repository) and make sure that the fixes will actually end up in the repository. Otherwise all this bounty would give the community is *one* OWB build with newer WebKit and that's it... I can only imagine that the changes will quickly be out of date unless the fixes are committed to the main repositories.

@BSzili,

Again in a few OWB threads space, yours are words of wisdom BSzili!

Let's first solve endianess issues, and then we will present it as already solved to the Webkit main bramch repository!

Sure they will accept any coding bonanza that it will be free for them!

Deadwood maintains the latest version. If changes are not integrated they spend lots of money for one fix and that is it...

People should talk to developers (at best have one interested) before creating bounties...

i really dont understand.. is deadwood ok with this bounty carrying his nickname as if he already agreed to pick it up no matter what? because if none else does it looks like he will be then to blame, due to impression made that he was associated from the start, while this is apparently only someone elses individual initiative.
