software OS4   software OS4 : Enhancer Software Released On AMIStore (OS4)
   posted by amigakit on 1-May-2016 21:50:09 (29325 reads)
Enhancer Software Released On AMIStore
Cardiff, May 1st 2016

A-EON Technology Ltd is pleased to announce that the new Enhancer Software has been released on AMIStore App Store for OS 4. The Enhancer Software is a collection of utilities, commodities, classes, datatypes and libraries with the aim of enhancing the AmigaOS experience. It is the result of about nine months worth of hard work by the AmigaDeveloper.com Team.

The Enhancer Software contains the debut pre-release version of Warp3D Nova and there will be free updates for Enhancer Software users as Nova gets updated over the coming months.

X-Dock is a new feature rich docking system. It makes it's public debut on the Enhancer Software.

MultiEdit is a new tabbed text editor included in the package with many other features.

Multiviewer, the datatype viewer gets an upgrade to version 2.2, adding new features such as image thumbnails and much more. It now uses the new Shared Image Class and InfoWindow Class.

Ringhio Notifications has had many internal updates over the last few months to bring it to version 53.53. It now features notification sound, colourwheel support, individual app configuration plus lots of bug fixes over the old version bundled in OS4.

TuneNet has been updated as a result of user feedback and requests. The User Interface now supports 4.1 FE features and our new classes such as InfoWindow Class and ProgressBar Gadget Class. The new version is exclusively included.

ClipViewer also makes it's debut. This is a new Clipboard manager which has integration with other applications in the Enhancer Software.

Exchanger is a new commodity and application manager which gives external control of running applications and commodities, including: showing or hiding the program GUI, shutting the program down, displaying the Workbench information requester for the particular program, enabling and disabling commodities.

The Enhancer Software package is available to purchase as two versions. A Standard edition containing the RadeonHD v1 driver and the CANDI Special Edition with four animated Workbench backgrounds, and a Plus Edition which includes the RadeonHD v2 driver with composite video support together with the full CANDI package.

Many of the applications on the Enhancer Software use the new gadgets and classes that have been written from the ground up to give extra functionality to the apps they serve. InfoWindow Class provides a better way of displaying Information and About windows and is utilised with most applications in the Enhancer Software. Similarly, the new Shared Image Class is used by MultiViewer and ClipViewer.

We are also pleased to have licenced Joerg Strohmayer's Amiga software for the Enhancer Software including new versions of SmartFileSystem, AmiDVD, PartitionWizard and DiskCache Library.

Translators should *never* be changing menu shortcut keys, it's annoying and potentially dangerous, since you use them blindly possibly without realising you are one day sitting at a machine with a different locale setting. How about if the R-Amiga F you are used to meaning Find suddenly invokes Format? (Exaggerating for pedagogical reasons here, of course ).

yes! please *never* translate any shortcuts!!! dont't even allow to do so.

in addition to the annoyance of the user it really hard to "translate" them. after a couple of them you're out of ideas which keys to use and this usally ends up in really strange shortcuts. like "p" for "open" because "o" already is used by smth else...
and this is also one reason why translating catalogs is not so trivial. i mean just translating the words is easy. but keeping the context and using the words the user is used to see and to keep in sync with the other components/programs of the systems is quite difficult. especially using the current process of translating catalogs (textual .ct files with a text editor)
i hope the translators did a good job here!

regards...

I bought the plus package too even though I already had bought RadeonHD v2, Candi and MultiViewer.
I could not see any price reduction on check-out.

So I guess i payed around 30 gold pieces more than I had to.. and frankly I won't cry my eyes out because of it;
the next 2 times I feel the need to go out for dinner I'll think about my 30 gold pieces beeing divided between Developers, Beta Testers, Graphic Artists and Contributors and I will cook something at home. Case solved.

Cheers and thanks to eveyone involved!

I hope we will see updates to the package, there are few things which need betterment.

@MichaelMerkel

Personlally I dislike the choice of the developer to use "RAmiga C" to close a window. I think the same shortcuts should be kept system wide as much as possible. Workbench uses Ramiga K to close a window..
RAmiga C is copy.

yes. it is copy and should never ever be used for smth else. there are some shortcuts which are simply given. ramiga+c/v/q/o/s just some of them. and this makes it even more necessary to *not* translate them.

@amigakit

I applaud the effort You A-EON's guys really deserve success and recognition for all the money, passion and madness you're pouring into your effort to carry the platform forward. Thanks a lot.

That said, I also have a question.
It's already bad that some parts that should belong to the OS are developed indipendently by third parties (not your or the developers' fault, of course), but bundling those components with applications makes it even worse... unless it is possible to get those componets separately as well, that is. So, is/will it be possible?
Personally, I'm interested only in SmartFilesystem2, Partition Wizard and Format, and I'd buy them right away if they were available.

@Broadblues:

Oh, I stand corrected then. Good thing your Amiga knowledge helps paying the bills, I remember that feeling from the good old days...

So, a precise description would be "Amigakit and the developer need the money"

@jorit:

Quote:

what this community desperately needs, is a somewhat sound economic system.

I completely agree, but what does that have to do with Amigakit?

Given the bleak situation, the only sound approach involves a large upfront investment of time and money, some honest PR for a change, and 12 to 24 months of development to port the only viable product they have to a(ny) sane hardware platform - that's assuming this entire legal mess can actually be solved and there's a way to get rid of all the egotistical maniacs involved.

What Amigakit produces instead are expensive ports of 20 year old 8-bit paint programs, commercial Multiview replacements and animated Workbench backdrops for 15 Euro. It's good for them that this generates some badly needed immediate revenue - but that strategy is the exact opposite of a "sound economic system", it comes with an inbuilt expiry date in the not too distant future.

@cgutjahr

You forgot to mention ClipViewer, Shared Image Class, InfoWindow Class, RadeonHD v1, RadeonHD v2, Warp3D-Southern Islands, Warp3D Nova...

If you recall back to 2009, RadeonHD project had stalled at version 0.32 when A-EON got involved to finance the development. It took a sizable investment (in Amiga world terms) to get it to the level it is today and the investment is still in the "red" as I write. Future investments into the driver are already planned..

Warp3D Nova is the largest and most expensive software project A-EON has undertaken to date and it far exceeds the revenues generated by the Enhancer Software v1.0. Its a long term software investment.

You also did not mention the 18 developers in the AmigaDeveloper.com Team that actually got payments for their hard work on the Enhancer Software and projects for near future Enhancer Software updates.

All of that means absolutely nothing, unless you get the OS situation solved. In the meantime, you're basically selling promises - no matter how good Multiviewer 2.2 is - nobody buys that because of the urgent need for a good picture viewer, people buy it to support a cause. That generates badly needed revenue for you, but it doesn't improve OS4's situation at all.

Same can be said for any other Amistore offering. Nova is an impressive achievement, but unless your business plan relies on the remaining X1000 customers keeping your business alive for the next decade, maybe the total lack of X5000 news for what - eight months? - might be a more important topic to discuss. Or the insanity called "Tabor". Or why there are still developers siding with Hyperion in your behind-the-scenes feud, or how exactly the OS is not dead as a doornail given said feud.

I can sort of understand why the demise of the original, Belgium-based A-EON was swept under the rug - but that was six years ago and things have certainly not improved since then. Yet here you are, explaining to the remaining faithful that they have to pay a second time for a picture viewer in less than twelve months, because "developers need payment of course".

Hi Matthew,

where would be the right place to report bugs or make enhancement requests for The Enhance Package?

Thanks!

Using AOS 4.x programs on WinUAE seems like a hit and miss proposition.

My impression is that, unless its clearly stated that it will work, you should not expect a program to work under emulation. Holding AEONkit liable for emulation failure is unfair, again, unless its clearly stated it is supposed to work under emulation.

I've just put a query on the AEon facebook but I thought I'd also put it here in case this is quicker.
I bought this pack a couple of hours ago. When I try to download I seem to get the following...
First it tries to download 84.12Mb which results in 88209218 bytes with CRC 2306114289.
Then on retry it tries to download 11.19Mb which results in 11731384 bytes with CRC 3590664680.
In both cases it says that it expected 99940602 bytes with CRC 1603529135.
This cycle then just keeps repeating in the same alternating pattern each retry...
It says: "Error: enhancersoftware_plus.lha file is corrupt on download", with the details mentioned above, and "Select RETRY to try download again or SKIP to ignore error".
I'm sure its not a co-incidence that 88209218 + 11731384 add to 99940602...
I already own Candii and RadeonHD2.4
I don't see why but would that affect the download?

I agree 100% with this. Its not even listed as an official Hyperion supported platform.
Its like buying a PS1 emulator and then moaning that it doesn't play every game correctly on your 98 PC.

Hmmm strange views. I personal could not afford to think like that

customers are customers or do you disagree?

and there was a fairly high number of people who bought it, the price cut of FE certainly was for that group

So if you want to sell licenses software should run on relevant platforms or you write in only for Sam 460 and X1000 recommended or similar

or at least a warning where it not runs. Otherwise you have angry former customers, hardly helping in future

@MRitter

PLease state which progams you have issues with, some like CANDI will ofcourse only work on RadeonHD others may requre settings tweeks on WinUAE, due to lack of memeory of hardware compositing etc.

AS to exampes IIRC there are autodocs for every class and examples too, how complete do you expet them to be? Not every usage case can be included in an example. PLease ask questions (preferebly start a new thread for that).

@FOL

That's not avery helpful response, no it's not officially supported by Hyperion, but most of the Enhancer software should work, we just need to work out what MRitter problem is and recomend settings for him.

@Nicsoft

Good day,

I also had the problem with Multiviewer, MulitEdit, and XDock crashing my SAM460ex (mouse frozen). I turned off DDR2 Boost and AmiDock. I haven't had any problems since then. I hope this helps you.

Cheers,
