Lies, all lies I tell you! The AmigaONE DOESN'T work, nobody has received theirs yet - and would you trust somebody called miffy?

Seriously, great review Mr. Pitcher - it's good to know that certain problems are just figments of an over-active imagination.

Note I made an error in the review, the max chunk size was 2Gb not 2 megabytes.

There were VIA problems but they are sorted out. I have not experienced any ArticiaS problems.

What a nice review, thanks.

I would like to see it used more generally, though, but as you say you will leave that to others.

What was the price of your system? Was that mentioned anywhere?

Sincerely,

-Kenneth Straarup.

I was wondering about that as I read it. Good thing you added the correction.

Oh yeah, forgot to say it, but nice review! Good to see someone doing a review in a "realworld" kind of setup, doing the kind of things that people will really be doing with them, not just running benchmarks.

Excellent review - nice to read some well explained real-world tests rather than "I set it up. It boots. Now I wait for OS4"

Only one thing missing though - let's have a picture!

Really nice to see a "real world" comparison too, not to mention how well the new A1 seemed to perform.

Doesn't " new A1" have a sweet sound to it! Well written too.

Thanks of the effort Miffy.

Bob C.

Nice review, Dave..

Do you mind if I link it over at ArsTechnica ?

If you don't mind ... What professional position do I say you hold ? I think your something to do with I.B.M. ?

Knowing your "pro pos" adds weight to your review.

No Probs, Mate.

I'll copy & paste your article instead of linking here... (Otherwise they'll read what you just said !!)

It's great to finally see a more in depth review of an AmigaOne-XE system. Thanks Miffy.

Excellent review, it looks like there is a world of difference between the starter and power systems, looks like a case of you get what you pay for, with the build quality of the power system being much better than the starter system.. (Yet another niggle has happened with the starter system I got, the top part of the case (the horizontal plastic lid) fell off when I picked the system up to move it. It's purely cosmetic and it sits on OK when in use, just got to be careful when in transit, but apart from a duff mouse, keyboard and case, everything else works perfectly. System runs for days on end, never getting a reboot, until of course I completly stuff up sonmething in Linux and end up re-installing, but that's my fault for not having a clue what I'm doing, not a fault of the A1

It's nice to finally have a balanced thoughtful review of this system. Thanks for that Miffy, very much appreciated.

In case it hasn't been edited already, I'll try to fix your 2MB typo - and the other spelling mistake mentioned ;-D

Great review - very impressed, I had better watch my back

I love my machine too though I am having a little prob with the Linux installation.

Oh well, looks like I am going to learn some Linux the hard way!!!!

The build quality is great isn`t it? I have put one of Petros boing ball stickers on the centre of the fan with the blue light on the side of mine.

A "preview" of the AmigaOne XE will be appearing in MicroMart in the next week or so, with a picture or two.... I won`t be reviwing it fully in MicroMart until its complete, and I believe that requires OS4!!!
