Fleecy: Yes.

Looks like i need a new idea for an april fools joke next year

Asemoon: Will the classic Amiga ROMs ( v1.0-3.1) be included on the AmigaOS4 CD for UAE emulation?
Fleecy: We are looking into this but no decision has been made. It is likely that we will work with Cloanto since they are the only ones with an established and legal product in this area.

That could mean an Amiga Forever for AmigaOS?

Oh, very nice of fleecy to make fun of my question, for which I've been waiting a while to get an answer to.

Do you people think my Software Patents question was hard to understand?

@HMK:

I don't think he made fun of your question... it can be interpreted in two ways, as far as I can see:

1) "How can AmigaInc work without breaking the software patent laws"
2) "How can AmigaInc work within a system that supports the broken idea of software patents"

Fleecy answered the first question, ie "there are laws, we don't intend to break them". The comment about moving to Italy could just be that he just didn't see the second meaning of the question.
How would he have answered the second meaning of the question? that's hard to say, since it looks like it's an inevitability, sortof like asking "how Amiga Inc. gets by with developing software in a country where taxes are enforced". Other than moving their HQ somewhere like China, where they have a completely different way of dealing with IP, I don't think they can do anything about it.

Just a small addition to the Patent question, there is no possibility to get around software patents if you work on a global market so you would have to abide by them no matter what(the location have little or no inpact on that).

Personaly I prefere if the hole thing would be moved to Ibiza so I can move to Space all year long :)

OK, thanks for the answer. I didn't think of it that way, and thought that you would be legally protected, if the development only went on in Europe, and still were distributing the software world wide. This is not the case, I see.

Of course the location does not help, then.

Still, I'm sure you could live without the software patents?

It doesnt realy matter where you develop the thing, its the sales part that is the tricky bit :)

And yes personaly I´m against both software patents and method patents but there is little I can do about it other than live and abide by the rules :(

That's the thing... You never know when Amiga Inc. themselves may face a lawsuit for infringing some dumb patent regarding displaying graphics on a mobile device, no matter how skilled their legal department is.

Even if it's a bogus patent and prior art exists, it's still an enormous waste of time amd money.

yes and SCO is a prime example on bogus patents.

but I don't think it matters where you are stationed etc. for those kind of things (unfortunatly), one can only minimize the chances by scrutinizing your own code and patens... unfortunately I don't think Amiga inc. have the money or resources to look at all the patent infringements that might occur from others on their patents... with regard to amiga OS patents this responsibility lies with gateway.

one can only hope the world will get saner... but it sure looks doubtful.
